Has anyone used the idatalink stuff in an early GenII? I already have an Ultragauge, but I'm curious if I can dump it and get similar/more info from the idatalink maestro.

Anyone have any idea of how much info I'll be able to gather with the HU/idatalink/OBD interface on an older Taco?

I'm just not sure about how much info will be pushed through the OBD to the HU.

Was wondering the same thing, the other day. I would assume all the same info, i believe the limitation is in the headunit. hopefully someone will have some actual insight.

I’ll update in a few weeks. I’ve got a couple other projects going before I get to my new audio install.

Fortunately I’ll be doing the work in my remodeled garage with HVAC, and not in the TX sun

Thanks, OP. That would be really great info to know.

I was leaning towards the Pioneer 4200 because it has a detachable faceplate, but am now leaning towards Kenwood for a few different reasons...better reviews, capacitive screen, etc...

Do you have steering wheel controls? I don't and am wondering if the maestro would be overkill because I think I would be paying for steering wheel controls vs. just vehicle info...

If that's the case, I was thinking of just using a $10-$20 OBD bluetooth module to Android phone to head unit...that's my theory...not sure how it will actually work to mirror my phone to the head unit.

What I would give for HVAC in my garage in Phoenix...that has got to be pretty sweet. I think it is 109 here today...I can barely stand going in there to do laundry or get in and out of the car before getting the AC going.

Looking forward to you update when you get the chance.

My truck is a 2015 and I feel like the Maestro is overkill. Buts its a great product and you definitely get what you pay for with it. Call them and ask them what features you gain from using it, their tech support is top notch. Then you can decide if thats the route you want to take.

Doubt the obd modules app would be able to be mirrored on any headunit.

Thanks @Purpleman I'll contact Maestro...looks like somebody was able to display their bluetoothed OBD2 module onto their headunit...it was on an Amazon review (video)...not sure what HU they had...maybe an Android?

Update: Just went back and looked at the Amazon review...it was an Android HU and he updated his review to state that he is having connectivity issues with it...but it's from back in 2016...I read that those Android HUs were glitchy....maybe they have improved. Could be his app, too.

I wouldn't bother with an android unit. The couple Joying units I have installed were garbage(1 came back and was replaced with a kenwood unit).
