Hondo Garage's New Thing

Any advice for install preparation? Little things that would assist in the process, tools or equipment needed, recommended lifting points or things that caused minor issues?

 

@thesloppy1 Sounds like our builds will have some stuff in common. Right now I am looking at a 20" x 38" kitchen setup on the back passenger side with a slide-out stove and cutting area with a dometic fridge on top. Paired with an electrical cabinet with batteries, inverter, fuse boxes, solar connection, outl etc behind the kitchen and against the cab. The drive side will have a 27ish" x 63" pull out drawer system with just enough room to squeeze a water storage tank with pressured hose attachment behind. Now I just need to turn my 2d sketches into a 3D CAD layout to ensure fitting and clearance within the GFC.

 

Nice. Basically the same setup I'm going for. Except I don't have to do any wiring since I already have a dual battery system and have the bed wired with multiple 12v outlets and usbs. With the stove, I've basically thrown all my cooking stuff into a box in the garage and only use the skottle. It work amazing and has simplified my whole cook setup. I haven't seen a deployed GFC as of yet so I'm not sure of how the bed panels work in real life, but I'd like to leave at least a two foot walk way down the middle of the bed. Maybe I should learn how to use one of the CAD programs.

 

My fridge is easily accessible through the poppable side panels. NO MORE opening the swingout, locking it, then the top window, then the tailgate for beer!

 

I didn't think of that. Maybe I won't even buy a fridge slide, just access it through the side panels. I'm tall with monkey arms, it shouldn't be a problem.

 

Same here. Ill show a video of it later. its not perfect because of the steel frame, but it works.

Oh yeah, and we've come to the conclusion it will not fit over a prinsu rack. even if it did, the articulation in the truck bed when offroading would hit the rack very easily.

gonna chop mine in half.

 

I'm guessing it would bump the factory rack as well? I'm assuming I'll need to remove mine before I pick it up.

Now for today's silly question. Is there a way to lock the rear panel from the inside? So when you're sleeping up top you can lock yourself in. I can lock my tailgate but not sure about rear panel.

This long wait is giving me way too much time to think about things.

 

If its taller than the fin on the roof, than yes, id recommend taking it off.

Gotcha. Lucky for me, I don't have the shark fin. Looks like I'll have to stop being lazy and do some measuring.

 

Im just gonna chop my Prinsu and half and mount it back up lol.

 

Solid plan. Saw someone did that recently for a habitat and it turned out pretty well.

 

Anyone know how much space is behind the bar on the front of the tent portion? I have some mounts that I am curious if they will fit around that bar. Thanks!

 

Does anyone have any pics? I have a prinsu on my access cab that I would love to not have to fully remove (drilled straight through the roof and did a bolt through both the rack and roof due to not trusting or having luck previously with nutserts).

Looks like it may be for a DC though, not sure how you'd approach it for the AC.
