We had some old TNG redwood fence pickets set aside and my GF needed a planter, so I threw this together this morning.

Its always fun looking at a pro's (or someone who takes time) layout vs the DIYer who just slaps it together.

Lol. I put heated floors in my bathroom, however they are electric. I had scheduled the tile guy for a Monday, figuring I'd have the weekend to methodically lay out the wires and set them with a little hot glue (I used a wire brand different than the mat manufacturer's so it didn't snap in as well). He calls on Friday morning and wants to come over and start tiling that day as his jobs got moved around. It was a mad scramble to get the wires down and it was not the way I wanted to get it done, but it worked out in the end.

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
Yes. I did this at my cabin last year. You just put the thin-set right over it and lay the tile on top. Works great. It takes a while to heat the floor up so it isn't the type of thing you turn on and off frequently. Once you turn it on, you want to leave it on like on for a while.

As mentioned, they just tile right over it. Mine doesn't take very long to heat up, maybe 10 minutes? I turn it on when I get in the shower and it's usually warm when I get out. There's also a timer, so you can set it to come on at a regular schedule.

The Ditra Heat is an uncoupling membrane like standard Ditra and Ditra XL , you tile right over it either as is or after prefilling it with thin set and then tiling

The final item from my LR renovation was to remove and paint the fireplace doors and reinstall as is. I don't use the fireplace and I had a 2" thick piece of rigid insulation (painted black) wedged in the opening just behind the doors to prevent heat loss in winter. Upon removing the doors I said "hmmmmm...I kinda like the open fireplace look". So I picked up some fireplace brick cleaner and went to town for about 4 hours. Cleaned up fairly well. I picked up a simple screen with doors. I checked the flue and it's spotless and the damper works perfectly. I'll probably not use it and will stuff some fiberglass insulation up near the flue this winter to prevent heat loss. I have a nice stainless steel chimney cap that prevents rain/snow from getting down into the flue. If I ever want to use it, I can just simply remove that insulation. All the mortar and bricks are in great shape. The log holder was pretty dirty and rusty, so I cleaned that all up and will use some of that rust primer and high temp black paint on that. Quite happy with the new look.

Is there a way to repair wood veneer? Front door is only 4 years old but the finished faded really bad and it was starting dry out and split. Took it off, sanded, and one area I sanded a little too much while trying to get the spots to clean up. I really don’t want to paint it
