OEM Roof Rack for MTB

Anyone carry their mountain bikes on the OEM roof rack? Tried finding a thread but wasn’t successful.

If not, anyone come across some rather cheap-ish ways to mount the bikes on a bed rail/rack?

Rooftop rack is a PITA to get up and load and unload at that height even with sliders to stand on, I just use the roofrack to anchor my paddleboards.

For bike mounts I used Thule low rider mounts bolted into my toolbox lid, you could do the same thing into a 2X4 to be cheaper.

Thule sidearm would be an option. Kind of high to lift a bike if you'd like I have two I'm selling cheap in NJ.

 

How much would you be looking to get? I’d just have some bed bars made to fit the sidearms on. Want the best way to carry the bike without having to remove the front tire and not get a hitch bike carrier.

Tailgate pad works great, and if you want a single bike tailgate pad, look up the bomber pad. You can find them for about $60 shipped at tacomabeast. I use mine all the time, bike never moves.

 

Never heard of these, so just looked it up and it’s very appealing. The website suggests they don’t work well on thicker tailgates ... is that at all an issue with your 3rd gen @jmauvais since it’s thicker than previous Taco tailgates?

 

It’s not bad. It has multiple hook and loops for securing the fork and downtube, so I end up using the loop for the downtube and one on the fork lower. I don’t put a loop around my upper sanction though. It is still plenty secure without the third hook and loop. If you get one, just play with the fittment, and you’ll get it working great. I’m not the only person on here that uses it either.
