My name is Patrick, and I live in Southern California. I'm not new to Tacomas; I've owned my 2003 Double Cab Pre-Runner since it was new. I'm not new to 4x4s; I've owned an '87 Samurai HT and an '06 Jeep Rubicon Unlimited. I am new to 4x4 Tacomas.

I just purchased the above 2015 4x4 Double Cab Off-Road edition with the intention of building a capable trail rig. The project was inspired by a 7-day trip to Baja when I was "between 4x4s" and forced to ride as a passenger. When I started the project, I had a number of requirements:

    1) Maintain Toyota reliability.
    2) Maintain tow capability. I currently tow our small travel trailer with my '03.
    3) Improve off-road performance and comfort without making it unusable on-road. I'm honest enough to admit that at best, this truck will be 90% on road and a daily driver.
    4) Build a rig that can haul a motorcycle, a couple of mountain bikes, a kayak or two and/or all the stuff for a month-long road trip without looking like Jed Clampet's truck from the Beverly Hillbillys (neither the original TV series, nor the crappy movie version).
    5) Be able to use it as a truck without it looking like it's been USED as a truck.

The build has begun. You can follow the progress on my Instragram feed @whyyesiteach #bajastyletaco.
