Well to be specific rear end insurance. As some may know I was rear ended at 60mph by someone on the freeway in my Accord. Totalled. Then I went and bought this a only having it two weeks some 20 year old girl texting on the freeway rear ended me. ( must be rear end somebody month) but luckily for her i let her live because she hit the tow hitch square so the scuff rubbed off with my thumb. Now my girl has a Camry and an older tundra with a hitch and ball on the back and she said people stay away from her rear end because nobody wants a hitch ball inbedded into their front bumper. So to give me a little extra insurance or protection might be a better word I’m looking for my first Accesory. I want black of course and something that compliments my truck. Any ideas. Make , model etc. I am extremely naive when I comes this set up. I understand my tow limit for my set is 6,700lbs but it’s also gonna serve as a bumper eater for the next texter than rear ends me.

Any hitch will get the job done, just be aware it's a double edged sword. When someone hits the hitch all that energy goes directly into the frame, which makes tweaking the frame a bit easier.

With that said I would still do it. I had one of these in my hitch and people really stayed back.

    Well shit.

Never eat the ass going 60mph? Forget about towing. I’m an ass man like Cramer so don’t take much stock in it.

The price is right in line for other hitch balls. That one just has the added benefit of multiple balls and a hook to create more of a "wall" for them to hit.

ive got just a regular Curt class 3 hitch on mine....just the hitch alone is pretty good protection.......great for slow speed bumper protection.....wont do dick for anything with significant speed though

got rear ended in a slow speed, stop and go traffic......not a scratch

im guessing if i didnt have the hitch, i would have ended up with some cracked bumper plastic.

probably going to pick up one of these in the near future.

    https://www.amazon.com/HitchHammer-Mounted-Bumper-Flexible-Tougher/dp/B06VW2T588

i wouldnt do one of the whole "hitch mountable tube bumpers" though....ide imagine those would just add to the damage caused.

This is what I use a s deterent to tailgaters: it also makes a handy step for reaching over into the bed when necessary. There must also be an intimidation factor. Because I noticed people staying back a little farther ever since I attached it. You can't tow with it. But pulling things with recovery straps works well, and it swaps out easily for a ball hitch when needed.

The people you have to worry about aren't paying attention to what is in your reciever.

Well damn now I’m gonna by two things. I don’t do well with choices. I like the first tri hitch for sure. Both then the hammer hitch looks like it would absorb some shock IF someone hit you. But I still need a hitch to tow. So I might buy both.

I want a deterrent and protection and the first post noted double edge sword IF someone hit your hitch if since it directly on the frame it could tweek the frame where as the hitch hammer looks to be a shock absorber? Just how strong is our taco frame?

That's a pretty tricky question. Your speed, their speed, mass of each vehicle. A Camry hits you at 15 MPH when your stationary: you win. A Kenworth hits you on the turnpike going 15 MPH faster than you, and he probably wins. That said, When I looked up and saw how the receiver assembly was mated to the frame, it looked pretty stout. I know not an exact answer, but the best I can offer at the moment.

I hate catching my shin on any hitch installed, I could never leave one in like that.

Plus if the wife hits it! GAME OVER
