Found this little dude a while back and finally got to go pick him up. Poor guy had some serious potential, Wish he would have made it!

Found this caribou bull winter kill yesterday. Either the wolves or the cold got to him. The rodents or other animals did a pretty good job chewing down the antler tips and the brow palm/shovel was either eaten off or broken off at some point. Measures 62" length from tip to tip.

Are you allowed to keep them and other deadheads in the final frontier? We can not here in Wa.

Yep. Some restrictions in areas like National Parks but that’s pretty much standard across the country.

    Which one?
I don't have any solid input regarding boots to use, though my dailies for work are the cheaper wolverines sold exclusively through sears, and I can typically get 2-3 years out of wearing them at work and using them for hunting and hiking the rest of the year. This year, though, I stopped wearing them when hunting due to the smell (synthetic socks and being on your feet for 11-12 hours a day aren't a good mix) and have been wearing either some garmont hikers or my salomon xa pro shoes, which have hands down the best grip on hills of any boots or shoes I've owned. Never had anything higher end than the garmonts, which took me a couple years of wearing off and on to break in.

I rarely find sheds around northern california, mainly because the timber and brush are just too thick to get through, but somehow I've found 2 full heads this year while deer hunting. I have pics on my phone but have yet to install a resizing app. The first was a nice 3 point at 15" wide and 13"/15" tall. The second was 19" wide and 15" tall 4 point that I found in the thick of where the carr fire burned through this summer, and it was somewhat scarred by the fire but not burned out. Unfortunately, I didn't realize how brittle the antlers were and chipped off about 1" on one when I barely bumped it against my ice chest.

The fire opened up so much area that was previously too heavily overgrown to access, so I've been exploring areas I've either never been through or haven't had access to since the 90s. As much as time and my knees will allow, I will definitely be out exploring and have a third eye looking for antlers!
