That elbow ditch was the first one I’ve gotten in the summer in... 10 years? Never. Ever. Again.

It wasn’t so much the tattoo as it was the heat...the no swimming thing is killing me too. GAH!

More work on the leg sleeve. It’s a wildfire with a helicopter dumping water. I’ll post pics of the whole thing.

The swimming thing is an issue for me. I have a pool and I'm in the damn thing nonstop till Sept/Oct when I close it.

Not done yet. Like 4 sessions in. 2 more to go.

I also attached the picture from our honeymoon that the artist used right in front on my shin.

Now that I have pretty much been tattooed everywhere, I can easily say the armpits were the worst.

I know you have to keep them away from the sun, but is a summer tattoo more painful than in colder weather?

Its more annoying. I typically only get tattooed from October to March,
    A) the heat of the sun isn't hitting it, the tattoo will already be raised, hot to the touch, adding summer sun to it just sucks.
    B) easier to wear long sleeves or pants to keep it some what protected during healing
    C) who swims in the winter?
    D) trying to go and do stuff in the summer, that causes sweat = horrible when you are trying to keep a healing tattoo clean and well un...sweaty. is not enjoyable. Plus bugs, they love tattoo after care, at least the stuff I've been using. :annoyed:

At least to me... that's why I try to avoid getting fresh ink in the summer.

Same here, I had to postpone my right forearm until fall because of an arm injury. Sucks.

    In order:

A: Plus I hear the color doesn't take as well if it gets in the hot sun right away.
B: I wear short sleeves year round. Fortunately I have a desk job and don't have kids. My last one, one of my cats jumped right on the tat after a session and I screamed like you wouldn't believe.
C: Unfortunately yes. Damn New England.
D: Sweat I don't mind. I've lifted weights every time right after I got worked on, though my arms don't sweat as much. I use Aquaphor on mine.

Also I tend to do house projects in the summer and I do not want to be opening up walls after getting tatted.

I haven't had issues with the first part, that blows, my mom (shes been on crutches since january) started to fall the other day and grabbed my arm to catch herself. That.. was not fun. I haven't been able to work out before or after my ink sessions, the area seems to swell to much even with ice packs.

I do get some swelling but not horrendous. Gone by the next 24 hours. I've only had my upper arms done, and my longest session was 2.5 hours if that matters.

Of course, it was my cat Thug Rose who jumped on my arm. 18 pounds.

Never had issue with upper extremities, the lower however, lower leg and fore arms did swell, worse then the inside of my bicept. Thinking it has more to do with circulation and lack of muscle tissue if that makes sense.

Circulation alone would matter no doubt.
