Alabama Hills was nice. But, way too fucking hot. Back up near Mammoth again. This place does not suck.

With my last free weekend for a little I mounted my air compressor in the engine bay to free up space in the drawers. Then adding tracks to the drawers for holding my cooler and other crap down when off-road.

Also ordered the end caps for the last side panel and the rear of them.

Much nicer now to hold shit down.

More shit then I ever planned on doing
I’ll fill it before I leave the house and keep it in the bed then throw it up there when I get to my destination. It lifts right off th bracket so even if I’m parked in the shade I could set it in the sun to warm up for that evening.

Here's my take on the 4.88's with the 6-speed:

    Good
    • The low end power is awesome. No more feathering the clutch on steep starts on the road.
    • The 4 HI is now more usable off-road. Any steep, non-technical incline required 4 low with 3.73's.
    • You can roll much better in 5 - 10 mph stop & go traffic using 2nd gear.
    • It's great in the hills.
    • Obvious crawl capabilities. So much less clutch feathering.
    Not So Good
    • The 6- speed ratios still suck. Overdrive is too low. Ratio is too wide between 1st & 2nd. Don't need to rant here since the subject has already been beat to death.
    • The truck screams at highway speeds. Mofos wanted to cruise at 80 on the way back from Expo. I was getting about 25% less gas mileage than everyone else.
    Other stuff
    • Get used to uncomfortably high RPM's at 70 mph.
    • Sometimes you may try to shift into 7th gear. It's low enough that I think I'm in 4th, when in 6th, and try to upshift.
    • It feels about right with 35's. I can't imagine how @BudMan did it with 33's for a year or so.
Would I do it again? Not sure. Maybe @Holloman can chime in. 4.56's and 35's. Or @MJonaGS32 with 4.56's and 33's.

I was looking up the ratios and ended up finding the 3rd gen 6-speed ratios. Did you know that their 5th gear is the same ratio as our 6th (0.85)? And their 6th is 0.71. :pout:

IMO 4:56 with 33” tires and manual trans is perfect if you have a commuter for the highway. I mean its not terrible at highway speeds (I actually kinda like it), but I can see how people with the need for speed may not like it. On the trail, this set up is perfect. So I’m assuming 4:88 with 35” tires would be very similar

Guess I better get whatever speeding I have left in my system out before they ship.

The majority of my commuting is done on streets, so my day to day shouldn't suck too much. And when I go on trips, I've been more and more inclined towards taking a John Steinbeck approach lately anyway. If you drive too fast you miss all of the sights.

I say this now, but I also know that when I'm beat at the tail end of a trip I'm usually a little heavier on the accelerator . I have a trip planned for after the gears are installed, going up to Washington and back, that's when I'll find out if I love or hate the 4.88s.

I love my 4.56’s I think they are a good all around setup with 35’s. When I’m going 72 down the freeway my speedometer says I’m doing 80 so I’m still lower than stock gears. If it was a dedicated trail rig I’d probably go 4.88’s or even 5.29’s but let’s be realistic most of us still drive our trucks on a daily basis to work and dropping the kiddos off at school.

It was like watching an episode of cops last night from my balcony. Neighbor was beyond hammered and she called the cops on her bf. The cops ended up arresting her after 2.5 hours around 2am of her yelling and telling the officers to shut up and “boy bye” when one officer told her it would be best if she shut her mouth. 4 officers and one drunk woman. They even brought the dog out because she told officers he locked himself inside with a knife. He didn’t and wasn’t armed. I think they waited so long because she has a daughter in the apt.

Looking forward to giving my 30 days on Friday. Debating walking in today and talking about it then throwing it on the table.

They say notice is a thing of the past. Some suggest "effective immediately" was much better. I was surprised but then most employers wouldn't think twice of laying people off right at the holiday season either.
