I’m sure there are various bad experience stories out there so go ahead and vent, heck it may even spare someone else the misfortune of going through a similar experience.

    I’ll start:

    Williams Toyota
    Sayre, PA

Just about 3 months ago I purchased a used 2006 Tacoma from them. It read 29K and change on the odometer, seemed well cared for and came will all the preventative maintenance records. That being said, two days ago the AC gave out. After doing a ton of research I believe the issue is a seized compressor ~ not a cheap fix assuming I’m correct. I contacted Williams Toyota and explained the situation to them. Obviously the truck is out of comprehensive warranty so I wasn’t expecting any miracles. All that I politely asked for was to have the AC inspected at no charge to confirm exactly what was causing the system to fail. Whatever repairs were necessary I would address and pay for. They said they could certainly inspect the system and likely locate the problem but would have to charge me full price. I really don’t think I was asking for too much here considering a just bought the truck from them, its low mileage and most of the previous preventative maintenance had been done at their dealership. At any rate, Williams Toyota is one dealership I won’t ever do business with again.

Wow, this is way better than therapy! I feel much better now, thanks for listening.

WESLEY CHAPEL TOYOTA - WESLEY CHAPEL FLORIDA

I have purchased from there in 2007 when the dealership was new and grand. Since then the entire place has become a horrible experience from start to finish. The salesmen do NOT have a clue about their product and the finance department is nothing short of a scam infested group of individuals.

TWICE, yes twice I have attempted to give them my business since 2007 and each and every time has been met with the same experience. Not only was I promised over and over that things were being taken care of but the pricing on the vehicle changes immediately. I was given a price of $26,000 out the door on a used Tacoma when all of a sudden 2 hours before I could finalize the deal (at work) I get a call saying, "Oh by the way, our math was wrong and we can't work that deal, but we can sell it to you for $31,000". Math was wrong? What type of a mental midget is working at the dealership to miscalculate a deal this bad?

In 2008 (Dec) I attempted to purchase a 4Runner and after a few hours of back and forth with the finance manager I was told to come back in the morning and all will be correct and ready to go. I arrived at 9am in the morning and was told by another manager that they can't work the deal. The original manager was standing in the room (glass one where they crunch the numbers) and would not come out to give us the news.

If you know anyone that wants a Tacoma in the Tampa area tell them to avoid this dealership like the plague.

It sounds like they just didn't go above and beyond for you...If them telling you that they have to charge you for work they were going to do instead of giving it to you for free makes them a bad dealer- so be it.

There are plenty out there for you to try...Good luck finding one that will do work for free for no reason other than you asking them to.

Well, I won't get my truck serviced at North Shore Toyota in Vancouver any more. I brought my truck into them last fall to have them install my winter tires on a new set of rims that I bought from them. First visit, instead of putting the winter tires on the new rims (the ones with no TPMS sensors), they removed the tires from the existing rims and put the new ones on, leaving the new rims sitting in their parts department. An hour later they finally had the tires on the new rims, but it was the SUMMER tires, meaning I'd have to drive with the TPMS light flashing for 8 months of summer instead of the four months of winter. I didn't complain at the time since it's not THAT big of deal.

Fast forward to this spring, I go to put my summers back on and find that they had over-torqued the tires so much that you need an impact wrench to get them off (I live in an apartmen, and don't have room for alot of tools). I take it back to the dealer and figured I might as well mention the TPMS sensors while I'm there.... and after waiting two hours for what I was told would be a 45 minute job, I get home and find that they swapped the TPMS sensors as I asked, but once again over-torqued the wheels (even though it was written on the service sheet "DO NOT OVER TORQUE WHEELS"). Anyway, a long, strongly worded email to the service manager, and one more visit to the dealer, and they had the tires on properly. But needless to say, I've had enough of that dealership. If they can't install a tire properly, who knows what else they're doing wrong.

I tend to agree with the OP... if something like that goes wrong THAT SOON after purchasing it, they should be willing to diagnose it for free. I understand that they wouldn't fix it for free, but a free diagnosis would work in their best interest and the customers.

Can't recall the name, but it was a dealer in Houston on I45 I believe. I drove down all the way from College Station after seeing one of their vehicles online and informing them over the phone of my trip and they couldn't even find the keys to the vehicle I wanted to drive. After much searching and the test drive I made an offer and they would not bargain 1 cent. It was a used 06 trd with 4,000 miles on it and I asked them to knock off $500 and i would buy it, and they couldn't even do that. So I left and came back to College Station and after talking to my sales guy bought a brand new 07 prerunner for about $5k more than the used trd. I would have loved the trd package, but the guys at the houston dealer were just such douchebags.

I wasn't asking them for any of the repair work for free (which is likely gonna be over $2000.00) I simply wanted them to hook the truck up to their AC machine and either confirm my suspicion that the compressor seized or tell me what went wrong if the compressor was not the issue. According to the service manager the whole process would take 20 minutes or so. I don't think it was a lot to ask. I fully realize they were under no obligation to do anything for me but from a business perspective it would have been the right decision for them to make. In the long run it will cost them far more than the $75 they would have forgone.

    Magnussen's Toyota in Auburn, CA.

I went to look at a "Certified Pre-Owned" 2007 Rugged Trail on their lot. They wanted $27,500 for it. The entire undercarriage, including the spare tire was covered in silver overspray... the whole truck had orange peeled, the doors didn't close properly, and it shook while it drove. It had CLEARLY been in a wreck... a bad one at that.

I talked to some friends that had bought from them, and they had similar stories. Unfortunately they didn't find out about their car's sordid histories until after they had bought them and took them home. Magnussen's has a reputation for CPO'ing wrecked cars.

The same guy owns Toyota of Carson City, NV. DO NOT go there.

On a 4+ year old car- Things break. Sometimes they ever break before the average lifecycle (which is why it's an average). The OP paid for whatever warranty he got. If he's outside of that- even the diagnosis costs something.

I know you weren't asking for the repair work for free- but even Diags cost something. You were asking for that for free for no other reason than you felt you should get it. In warranty- Totally different story- but you weren't. I'd rather keep up a relationship with a dealer (if I had that option) than try to start a new one. Cause you are going to have to take it somewhere and pay to get it fixed...but that's just me.

    TOYOTA PLACE in ANAHEIM, CA

About 2 months ago, while in the process of searching for an FJ, I went to a local dealer to look at some FJs and possibly buy one. I was trading in a 2009 Tacoma so I was [obviously] going to be upside down, and I only wanted to put down 3k. I went into TOYOTA PLACE, test drove the FJ and I told him I liked it but I wanted an all white one, in 4x4, with the convenience pkg #2 [they didnt have it in stock]. His response was: well whatever the FJs have right now, thats it. I cant do anything else. I asked about the subwoofer of the FJ, the towing capacity, and other things and he told me the owners manual was in the glove box. LOL. Then I told him I was trading in my Tacoma with negative equity and only wanted to put down 3k and he laughed and basically told me I was going to get an outrageous interest rate and a shitty deal.

2 weeks later, I got the exact FJ i wanted, over 5k off MSRP, only 3k down, 5.9%, free extended warranty, free factory alarm, and 2 years maintenance free at TOYOTA OF ORANGE. I hope that shitty salesman chokes on a dick and dies.

It's not me who has to maintain a relationship with the dealer, they need to maintain one with me or I will take my business elsewhere. They failed.

I'm with Brunes on this one. I think 90% of dealers would not have diagnosed for free. No need to post a thread bashing these guys. It's not their fault the AC stopped working. They sold you the truck as-is.

That's where you and I differ. It's a relationship- Goes both ways. I'd rather work with the same group of guys for everything (one salesman, one manager, one service writer, one tech) My scion is outta of every warranty out there I think- so I have to pay. And if I pay- It's those guys that get my money.

It's your money- do what you want with it. But there are dealerships with real serious issues out there- I think yours is more like a I want but didn't get than a true service issue.

    I'm out.

ts not realy the dealership(s) that im going to rip on, rather sellsmen. when i ask how much?, i dont want to hear "well mr.____, come on in and lets check your credit score and talk with the finance manager". i didnt ask if you can tell me if i can afford this vehicle, i asked how much it was. totaly dif story.....i was going to buy my wife a new car 4 years ago, it was going to be a, porche boxter s, mercadees, or a corvette. i went to the chevy dealer to look at the corvette and the doors on the car was locked. i asked the sales manager if he could unlock it so my wife could sit in it. he told me "we arent allowed to show it without a credit check". WHAT B.S.. he said i would have to talk to a manager first. i bought in to it. he asked for my social and i told him, "im not buying today and im not going to let you run a credit check on me". credit checks are bad, you only want to have one done on ane purchase, otherwise it shows up on your credit info as failed credid checks,, itn turn lowering your credit score. so he asked me if i knew what my credit score was and how much i made a year. it was kind of comical the reaction i got. he went to the back room and came directly back out with 4....yes 4 sellsmen. they poped the hood, took the targa top off, charged the battery, installed the nav. cd and showed my wife how it worked, and fired it up. it did piss me off that just cause i looked like i couldnt afford it didnt mean i couldnt, we wound up getting a ford f250 4x4 diesel, it had everything except for the king ranch package, (quite the oppisite of what we were looking for)
