    Hi Everyone!

I think I am leaning towards purchasing a factory TRD skid plate. . .any feed back from anyone? I am not going to do any super hardcore off roading but I think I would like to have some extra protection. I think the price is right (I was quoted 380.00, but I have a 15% off coupon through costco), and I don't have to pay for shipping, just pick it up. I know there a lot of great after market options out there, but I think for the price/value it will work.

I would love to hear everyone's thoughts!

Just rocks and crap that I could potentially hit and damage the motor area.

Like on paved roads? Maybe the occasional gravel backroad? The TRD plate will work well for that application.

Gravel backroads, hard packed desert conditions, probably the extent of it.

Yup. You good. Anything that would be putting the weight of the truck against the plate would need something a little more hardcore, but just against road garbage the TRD will cover it.

i agree with @rjbiii, it would be cheaper to get just about any aftermarket skid plate. plus added protection if you ever do decide to go wheeling.

Why, why are you yelling? :(

For real though, +1 for just saving the money and getting a steel plate.

I like that the TRD skid has the access panel for oil changes. Doesn’t come with the bad ass skull like the one above though, if that’s your thing.

I'd skip the silly skinny OEM plate and get a real one that connects with additional pieces of armor should you need them later. RCI's skid plate starts at $275 and has options for powdercoating and/or 1/4" aluminum (which saves weight). And yes, an access door is essential. The front skid is one thing but if you really need that you probably want/need additional pieces for the transmission, transfer case, controller arms, differential etc. These fit together perfectly and act together as a group. My $0.02!
