side note, not sure if its related but since the 4runner has a roof antenna the Prinsu has murdered my AM receiving abilities. I only listen to Giants games so not a huge loss but it could be also killing my comms from inside the cab?

I used to use my Icom IC-T70a HD handheld transceiver (HT) with my Diamond Antenna magmount MR77. Got 30+ miles line of sight. trees and mountains block everything, but that's how radios work, still better than CB.

Google settings for it. There is a good review on Amazon that lead me to a you tube video how to properly set up your bfang. as for the antenna same here no difference. I also programmed a bunch of stuff from the program web site that a member here told us about. I added a bunch of stuff like weater, and marine channels. hints rio vista bridge. marine 16

even with its limited reach for a cheap handheld its absolutely better than a CB for sure.
its programmed via a bunch of youtube videos. Works great and clear when in a group but if were offroad and space out for dust or what have you it becomes worse. But like what was said, part of the game with trees and mountains.

There is repeaters everywhere if you add them in you can get anywhere. But I have no idea how to do that.

For the UV5rs, the 8 watt models transmit at ~6.4ish watts in VHF (140MHz) and ~7.6ish watts in UHF (400MHz). I'd save your money and get a cheap uv5r and a KT 8900 mobile unit combo. Then you have a unit when you hop out to help spot.

yep pretty much line of site in the mountains. not sure if a more powerful unit with better antenna would help if the other end user is on a cheap handheld. I have no clue about this stuff but would like to learn more. Just never any time to do so.

Is it possible for two radios to communicate with one another if one is on VHF and the other on UHF?

If he had easier access to the back of the truck, he would've likely taken them in there. Found six sticks in there last time.

He's a little bandit. He'll go in my room, grab a sock, and come trotting out to show me so I can try to take it away from him.

At least you see him with the sock. Usually we would just find one shoe/slipper/sock missing and end up finding near my pups sleeping spot. She grabs them in secret
