The short - but eventful - life of Ike​

In its brief lifespan of only 13 days, Hurricane Ike wreaked great deal of havoc. Affecting several countries including Cuba, Haiti, and the United States, Ike is blamed for approximately 114 deaths (74 in Haiti alone), and damages that are still being tallied, with estimates topping $10 billion. Many shoreline communities of Galveston, Texas were wiped from the map by the winds, storm surge and the walls of debris pushed along by Ike - though Galveston was spared the level of disaster it suffered in 1900.

For a category 2 hurricane this storm did a hell of allot more damage then I thought it would do...

Most of my family on my moms side lives in and around the Houston area and have been affected in some way . In particular my grandparents who live closer to the Galveston area are still without power

Thanks for showing these bro, it really gives a good idea on what it's like over there right now.

 

I still wonder about Moody Gardens... ?? That was a sweet hotel

 

DAMN! That's a lot of damage! What, only 2 houses survived the hit in that one area? wow.... Are they not built to withstand hurricanes there?

 

You don't realize how bad it is until you see pictures like that, thank you for posting them. Lets hope for a speedy recovery to all the areas affected by IKE!

 

Wow....that's really aweful. I hope all those people are able to cope. May they find peace in such turmoil. I hope everyone has the comfort of being with friends, family, loved ones ..... That's what's important for them!
