Not sure! i know the gen 2 skid doesnt have that. im sure you could request a solid one w/o a cutout. @MattCowsmasher has one on his truck without that. It looks great and is beeef

Thanks Rob I have a SOS concepts skid plate set. I highly recommend them mine is hella beefy not very heavy about 40-45lbs an has a cut out for oil plug no modifications to make it fit. The factory one is just good for holding tools an bolts while you work on your truck. It's the top left skid I've seen them put in custom cutouts also.

I went with RCI IFS and tranny skids. Very happy with them, they have held up really well. I plan to get the transfer case plate soon. It also has a door for oil filter access.

My skid plate from RCI has an oil access door but at the dealership they just took the whole plate off anyway.

A rusty steel one instead of aluminium which you said would not see any harsh conditions.
The answer is clear. TRD IMO.
Plus I think it looks better than the black terminator style.

    Get the TRD!

I got TRD skid with pelfreybuilt aluminum mid skid and I do intermideate trails (3/5). I wouldn't change a thing, I had on a previous truck Mobtown steel skids all around and they were heavy and unnecessary for me, dropping them was such a pain. Aluminum is the way to go if you DD and do intermediate trails with your truck. Plus it looks actually good!

P.S. I am also one of the guys who wheels and crawls with P rated 30s and pulls full armoured trucks with e rated 33s when they get stuck:devil:.

Gouges mostly, but nothing that can't be fixed at the end of summer with aluminum welder.

Interesting. I’ve never had to do that to my steel skid plates before.

Steel skid doesn't gouges, but your trade off is a pain in the ass to drop it off on your driveway when you need access, rust, loosing max GVWR and it doesn't look cool /s

For my purpose and to keep under GVWR I went with aluminum, I don't plan purposely hit rocks.

    P.S.
I still managed to crack my oil pan with the steel skid somehow on previous truck:notsure:
    Bad luck:annoyed:

I recently put a TRD plate on. I thought it was going to be some thin cheesy piece of aluminum, but I was pleasantly surprised at how sturdy it is and what a nice job they did with the powder coating. I too don't do serious off roading.... just some dirt and gravel roads and across some weed fields for hunt/fishing/shooting etc. I think it will cover my needs and certainly better the the factory plates. If you like the idea and looks of a TRD plate then go for it and don't look back. It's not like you're spending thousands of dollars and if you need something more substantial down the road just change it out.

Such great info and insight from everyone. I really appreciate it. I think for my needs, I am just going to go with a stock TRD plate. After checking out a lot of the recommendations on here, I think the aluminum will be just fine for me at this time. I did like the RCI one a lot too, but just going to go with the factory one (I will be purchasing the sliders from RCI). Any other feedback here is most welcomed. This truck is going to make me go broke. I never figured I would get like this with a new truck ( I have 3 muscle cars), now I feel like I have 4 to dump money into. Hahaha. I do really enjoy the whole Tacoma community. Tons of great ideas.

If you are going with sliders, you might be planning to continue the belly armor beyond the front IFS plate, IDK. If you are, make sure that the manufacturer of the plates you plan to get in the future are compatible with the TRD IFS plate.

Where's the pic of how your transmission skid is bent like a banana?

For everyone else he also just likes to watch the world burn and break shit lol.
In which ya nothing but a tank will protect his truck.

Don't get how the oil pan cracked, must have been a rock wedged in or could it be because you launched it off how much shit lmao

It's not bent like a banana, there is a slight curve, still serves the purpose, who said skids must be straight?

The steel t-case skid also cracked previously, it had a poor design at certain section that I had to fix, so I wouldn't trust steel either sometimes.

And if my driving is indication of a heavy abuse, everyone can see how well aluminum holds to my abuse. Steel skids are better on trail toys, I don't like missing 250+ lbs of payload.

I've cracked the oil pan and had to abandon every car I've ever owned. Not this one. It costs a little more but I like the lighter weight of RCI's high grade aluminum. I can put a jack under it and lift the truck too. The cost of this is less than the hassle and expense of dealing with a disabled vehicle in the desert. So nice that we have options like this for the Taco. I'm loving the Taco parts ecosystem!

I have a question - If you have the oem TRD skid plate, can you still buy the RCI half plates and combined them together?
