Also, @JBTacoma did you guys do anything in the San Juans? That's what I'm more concerned about tires and clearance being limiting factors on

I'm just trying to avoid a whole line of guys with built trucks who I know want to go hit harder stuff not being able to do that because we don't want to tear up someone's stock truck. Everything I've read and heard about Moab has led me to believe that there's plenty of bone stock friendly stuff, sure, but those trails are usually really filled up with people in stock wranglers and the like that can turn days into real slogs, so any chance we can take to get away from that and find the less populated trails is going to be gold. If people were comfortable going to meets and just splitting up into groups and doing their own thing (like what the alabama guys did at black mountain), it would be different, but that almost never happens cause everyone wants to run together.

It seems easier to just establish some baseline up front so when we get out there everyone knows what the whole line is capable of. And obviously, I can't stop anyone from bringing whatever they want out there. I just don't want to go to some of the best offroading most of us will ever do in our lives and only be able to touch the tip of the iceberg. If it's true that you can take 31" street tires on 75% of the trails in Moab, then that's great and we're fine. But for some reason I'm really having a hard time believing that.

That Kia obliterated the back bumper at the top of that lol.

You guys all seem super convinced, so I guess just know your own truck's capabilities and I will plot rides assuming everyone can go everywhere

I have updated the OP with relevant info and a 'recommendations' section that we can continue to BS about for the next 375 days

I appreciate your “recommendations” for the trip, especially as someone who hasn’t done any serious off roading in my truck. And my truck isn’t stock but I’m far from what you guys would consider “built”. I’d love to take the cross country trip in my Taco and hit MOAB but I may have to find some trails close by and do a few other off roading friendly mods before I attempted that kind of trip. But like you said, it is 375 days from now so I guess we’ll see what happens!

I know what you are thinking and trying to do but Moab is not like the stuff we do around here. On every trail there is really difficult spots but for all the difficult parts there is a easy trail either to the left or the right. You make the trail as hard or as easy as you want, the ones that will be holding up the ride will be the ones doing the difficult parts, the ones that don't do the hard parts will be at the top waiting on you. Every trail you ride you will see bicycles riding them to. You will see stock trucks every where and cars. They have everything laid out for everyone to have a good time and they maintain it very well for what it is.
None of the trails are filled up, you will see a few on each trail. The trails are every where some right in Moab and some 5 or 6 hour drives. People say they go to Moab but Moab is just a little town where everyone goes to eat, shower, stock up and hotels if you want them. Top of the World is 1 hour and 45 minutes from Moab, Hell's Revenge is 11 minutes, Golden Crack and Poison Spider Mesa is over 5 hours from Moab. It is several million acres of trails, its only crowded in town.

From your mod list your truck looks pretty similar to what deeds was wheeling on until I sold him my old tires.

Yeah I mean, like I said, not stock but also not built for crazy off roading. 5100s all around, OME 885 coils, Icon 3 leaf progressive AAL on top of TSB leafs with overload. Also had a 3.6” diameter one piece rear driveshaft installed recently to finally rid myself of rear vibrations. Sitting at two inches of lift and currently on 265/70/r17 KO2s. Would like to upgrade to 33s in the next six months or so and may ditch the OEM side steps for something a little more sturdy and lower profile. Also may consider removing the front sway bar when I get larger, heavier tires and doing any necesssry trimming/CMC to fit the tires. I’d also like to put an LED light bar on the front of the truck for off road purposes. It’s a work in progress and I’m slowly building it up to be able to take it off road without risking too much damage. My biggest concern is not so much the truck, but learning how to drive and what not to do when off roading.

    Moab......

    Driver skills > truck parts

Cool gear is good for those who live to do it for the gram

You see many old doods in stock rigs doing things inexperienced drivers struggle on with rigs that look all "King of the Hammers" bad ass.

You'll learn quite a bit about driving, as opposed to " spending your way up a hill" on terrain like Moab.

No problem whatsoever....scraped the sliders...put a couple scuffs on the skids...but no damage
