I'm not familiar with auxbeam so it may somehow be different, but typically LEDs don't have the "hot spot" that throws light far down the road. So while it may look nice and crisp, HIDs are better. I'm running 4300k HIDs in my halogen projectors on my subaru and they're BRIGHT. I love them. Just a friendly suggestion.

If you want to retro your Taco light I’ll give you a sick deal on some projectors. BNIB. Goes for you, too, @Me. Projekt

It was my understanding that the 3rd gen halogen projectors didn't work great with HIDs. I'm going to be tearing my lights apart to do BHLM in a few weeks and I was thinking of upgrading to HID.

I obviously don't have any experience with retrofitting to HID though. So I could easily be wrong.

I have only done it once to correct the retros I bought. It’s not very hard at all. I can’t confirm anything about the 3rd gens, but if you’re interested I’ll definitely make you a deal. They’re just sitting in my garage right now.

since I'm stock as fuck.. probably peter's mill and taskers!

I'm probably not going to put this thing on 285s either... probably just gonna do a leveling kit and 265/75/16 Falken AT3w's.

but I'm planning on a winch / bumper for sure.

Oh I totally agree with your suggestion. I am running HIDs on the 4Runner's low beams but it seems like the LED fog lights dont match them very well. but my wife likes HIDs more than LEDs.

LEDs cast a much cleaner light than halogens (at least to my terrible eyes) so I'm not really going for brighter so much as I am for better "color" light that doesnt strain my eyes like halogens seem to do. HIDs are DEFINITELY brighter, but I've kinda gotten gunshy on using them off road since I had a balast go out on me on a trail in Colorado (thank God it was evening and not pitch black outside)

but I'll also have ditch lights and a 30" bar in the bumper for the extra distance / more light
