That sounds like a bad idea. A lot of weight hanging off some small screws. What about four plates you could slide under the bottom of the frame and bolt to the mounting tabs welded to the frame?

Not at the moment. I know, I know. I should know better. Going to do a few Plusnuts into the composite bed, just hesitant on resale devaluation... Strapped down with OEM D-rings for now.

How far out do the mounts extend (how big is that gap)?

 

1.635" to be exact Just enough to clear the lift strut.

 

That should be just fine. I'd recommend bolting the plates to the bottom extrusion since it has support the whole length via the mounting bolts. Place one set of brackets at the back and the other set just above the front of the space frame. If you use 4 bolts per bracket it will be plenty strong. I'm planning on having some simple steel lift brackets in the store very soon.

 

Just wanted to send a huge thanks to Graeme, Wiley, (Ron?), Mateis (?), and the entire crew at GFC. I drove all the way out from the San Francisco Bay Area, arrived a bit early, and used the extra time before the install to visit Hyalite Reservoir with my (then) girlfriend and best friend where I popped the question (she said yes, thankfully - that would have been an awkward ride back to Cali!)

The GFC team was awesome, very friendly, helpful, and definitely hard at work getting space frames welded and the tents sewn up. I've included some photos below (surprised the Prinsu rack fits!). Enjoy...

Thanks @wileydavis ! That's exactly my plan; A square or rectangular plate where each is mounted with four of the T-nuts to the lower extrusion. Rear plates would be almost at the end and I envisioned the fronts being somewhere just in front of the space frame for balance.

A little off topic, but how do you like the BP-51's? I have Fox 2.5/2.0 with remote resis and All-Pro's expedition leaf pack on my 2nd gen now. Want to have something on the 3rd gen that I'm going to build but don't want to go the same route...don't like how stiff and harsh the truck is on road. Can you speak to it's small bump compliance and ride comfort?

For the off topic part it sounds like you may need to mess with your valving on the fronts and rears to better soak up those small bumps. Also the expos will be really stiff with no weight in the back (If that's the case). Upgrading your shackle hangers could help too. Would you say your front spring rate and preload is appropriate as well?

Thanks. I do not have compression or valving adjustment on mine. I understand the expos are rough, I have a leer cap on the back along with All Pro's front and rear bumper and ifs skids. I called fox and talked with their engineers and we changed the front springs to better handle the weight, which it did, but it's still a heavy, harsh truck in my opinion.

For the 3rd gen I'm ordering, I'm trying to decide between a Toytec Boss kit with add-a-leafs (and likely some firestone airbags and daystar cradles to handle the extra weight with GFC and gear when loaded) or a "all in" kit like the BP-51's with a Dakar pack, which I'm pretty sure is what @wileydavis is running.

All of this will depend on overall height anyway...will need to fit in a 7' garage door

 

I have the BP-51s and a Deaver U402 Stage I pack (The lowest spring rate one). For my truck it's perfect as I don't pack more than 100 lbs of gear beyond the weight of the GFC. The Dakar was way too stiff for my needs.

 

Affirm, factory bed rail caps (plastic). I have the relentless fab metal tailgate cover but wanted the extra height of the bed rails to clear the Prinsu rack. Worked great!

 

You can adjust compression/rebound on the foxes but it will require disassembly as compared to the external bypass settings on the bp51s. It's the biggest benefit of rebuildable coil overs/shocks and allows you to change their characteristics according to your driving style and ride preference. You'll run into similar things with the boss kit (I think they are swayaways but not 100%) but the rear will ride smoother with that setup compared to a heavy lift pack. I have dakars and can say they aren't the smoothest without weight and the biggest benefit to the bp51s is their external adjustment (for bypass settings) but they will still need to be taken apart to have the main valving dialed in. Basically no setup is going to be really plug and play for optimal ride quality as that's subjective to each driver.

Apologies for the BS in this thread and honestly either setup will be pretty sweet compared to stock. Just don't give up on your current setup as it could be pretty awesome with some work .

This is fantastic news! Although I am willing to take a saw to my prinsu, I’m glad I don’t have to. We both have long beds and so this makes me super happy
