Beware changing LSD lube!!!!!!!!!!

Do you know if your LSD is still working you have pretty high mileage on original oil right. How was your LSD last winter ?

 

ha I was beeing sarcastic because of the guy that said earlier it wasn't a big deal, this shizz cost money its all a big deal

 

Original oil has 25K miles on it and haven't had any problems. Grandma street queens (like me) shouldn't need to change the diff oil until 30K according to my manual.

As far as I know its working fine. Last winter was our worst winter. I did run with 140lbs in the bed this year because my tires (original) are getting thin and sucketh. The tacoma chugged through the snow like it always does.

Honestly? The reason why I wanted to use the 'dealership' recommended additive - was because if I start having problems with chattering & what-not, I'll seriously take it to a dealership and complain just to be a pain in their asses. It's ridiculous that everyone is having problems with this when everyone uses what the manual says (and the manual isn't that specific).

I sent Mobile an e-mail asking them about the difference between the regular

$29 75W-90 Synthetic Gear Lube - 1 Quart (Pack of 2)

75W-90 and the 75W-90 LS.

It's the same oil.

I actually had a couple old bottles at home and the wording on the back of the bottle is the same with an addition of the LS.

 

So here is a dumb question but with the oil pictured below I do not need to use a additive right?

That is the exact stuff I used last week when I swapped out my rear diff oil. Mine also said "limited-slip" on the bottle but I already had some Redline friction modifier and just added 4oz. of that anyways just to play it safe. Havent had any issues yet but then again, I only drove it like 10 miles since. I am going camping this weekend and will be putting a couple hundred miles on it we'll see what happens.

 

Ok well keep us (ok maybe just me) on how it does, I am going to switch mine tomorrow but not going to drive to far this weekend but on my trips lowes if I have issues will post up.
Really wish I had a locked now so I would stop listening for noises from the diff. Forget how it works in the dirt,,,,

- Redline syn works with Ford LSD additive.

- Amsoil sny works with Ford LSD additive?

75W-90)that had a small amount of Friction modifier in it and then also added a 4oz. container of friction modifier to it. That was 2500 km's ago and no problems. Just my 2 cents.

 

Honestly, with as many different answers as people have been throwing out there? I would just get what you want a try it yourself.

 

Have you hauled some heavy loads in the bed as well? I want to run Amsoil so bad.......just don't want to dump the 40 buck worth of oil in the reclaim barrel if I don't have to. Keep us posted. This would be my choice for sure! Fill it and forget it!

Oh okay got yah. Hmmm....well I added about 4oz. of Redline friction modifier so we'll see what happens I guess.

 

Well I did the figure 8 and no go!! Spoke to Chris Barker of Royal Purple and he recommended a reputeble friction modifier. SOOOO which one do you recommend Chris4x4 Also wanted to know is synthetic o.k up front right?
