2018 TRD PRO Grille w/ TSS-P Radar Info/DIY

Anything specific I should look for when getting the PRO grille? One google search and a ton of different prices come up...some have the letter being taped with 3m on the description others have the TOYOTA being screwed into place? How different are they from the OEM other than price?

 

Big thanks to this man. Got the 2018 Pro grille for $170 and garnish for $46. Shipped today.

I just want to double check. I have a 2018 and bought the 2018 pro grille w/ garnish. Does the stock grille have the locking silver washer or do I need to order? Someone on the FB group didn't have them...not sure if he had a 2018 or not.

 

Your existing grill has the washers. Just take them off when you detach the radar.

I'm lifting my 2018 this weekend and installing a non-OEM Pro grille too... I'm totally going with this technique!

 

He is correct for the TSS sensor but you will need two "push nuts" to hold the garnish. You can find these at ACE. Do not ask for "Starlock Fasteners" as they will not have a clue as to what you are talking about. Starlock is apparently a brand of push fasteners. Dug around in the hardware aisle on my own and found them....bought four different sizes (Total was a 1.78) because I did have the garnish with me and luckily got one that fit. I believe 1/4 is the size as mentioned up thread today.

 

Just finished installing my $80 TRD Pro eBay grille onto my '18 TRD OR following the instructions in this excellent post. It's a '16-'17 grille. I didn't buy the garnish, instead opting to cut a piece of plexiglass to size and silicone it onto the existing plate.

Test drove it around the neighborhood, and verified that lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control both function without a problem.

Report back after some time on the freeway, etc. You are doing exactly what I first did, including th clear Plexiglass, and mine worked fine for a test drive, but then had problems later on.

Also, just FYI lane departure is managed out of a sensor on the windshield behind the rear view mirror, so it shouldn’t be affected by this.

Spot on. Driving tonight on the freeway, the "collision sensor is disabled" light came on. But 10 minutes later, it turned off again. So I'll continue to monitor, and will post again once I have a significant data set to report on. Fingers crossed, too.

 

my ghetto set up, Tupperware, has worked flawlessly for 6k miles now, rain, snow, dirt, mud, dust, fog, etc. i'm a huge proponent of saving money, and if it doesn't work, then fix it

 

When I first did the clear plexiglass and had issues, I wondered if it was reflective at all and that is what was causing problems. But I had the same problem with black piece of plastic, so maybe that is a poor theory. Something to think about.

Some folks had errors at first, then they went away. Mine didn't after several days, so that is when I gave in and bought the garnish.

 

Tupperware?? Do you have a picture? I get the disabled message every so often without a garnish or other cover. I thought it might be the angle of the sun at certain times of the day. But in reading both clear and black plastic aren't working, I'd like to see what you did.

 

yes, , Tupperware; crazy I know, but it's what I had in the house, and it works perfectly. I'll have to get in there tonight to show you how I mounted it, but here you can see it from the front

 

And here's an image with dirt and mud on it, still works, almost 6k miles now -- seems to just be different for everyone..
