Regearing after lift?

im running a 6" lift with 295 70 17 in tires.i would like to hear from people who have actually regeared their tacomas after lifting them. do you have to regear both the rear and front when you have 4 wheel drive or can you get away with just regearing the rear. also what gear ratio are you running and why? what did it cost you to have it done?

 

I am running 35's with 53000 miles but i want to eventually with lockers.

 

If you do Regearing you will have to get both the front and back regeared. YOu can take a look at http://eastcoastgearsupply.com/ 3rd member assmbly were they send the gear put together and once you have yours in. you send it your old ones back to them for money back. WHen ever i get the money i going to do both front and back 4.56/ with Arb lockers. But it is going to set me back aways.

the reason i was asking is i drove to california in it the other day and it was a gutless wonder on the highway .. not to mention eating gas like it was nothing.. i expected a loss in MPG so thats no big deal its the loss of power i dont like.

 

do the re-gear I did! I love it! I'm running 4.56 and ARB lockers and love the set up. It is a bit expensive though and it is night and day.

 

You're at the point where you could use a regear. Now weather you NEED it or not, is only up for you to decide. By what you have said, I can say you WANT to regear and quite possibly NEED to for your circumstances.

Use a gear ratio calculator to figure your before and after final drive ratios and you can adjust the rear end gears accordingly to achieve the final drive ration you are looking for. To answer another one of your questions, you do need to do both the front and rear R&P's at the same time. I do know a guy who decided not to but the end result was he drove a 2x4 instead of a 4x4. Wouldn't make much since to only do the rear.
