Two heavy vehicles hit head on, and resulted in a fatality. The Tacoma driver survived though... which is another testament of how safe these trucks are.

Condolences for the other drivers family.

The Tacoma driver is also lucky the GMC took out the fender/wheel well and didn’t hit them dead on.

Tragic looks like the GMC was moving pretty fast.

Judging by the carnage and the way the vehicles came to rest, this was a head on collision. The momentum carried the Jimmy to the side. Look at how the frame buckled  . If they hit at this angle, the vehicles would be facing away from each other at rest. Awful that there was a fatality.

Edit: Sorry, I misread your post. I thought it read "didn't hit them head on."

Also, from the article: "A preliminary investigation revealed that the GMC driver went northbound on the boulevard when for an unknown reason he veered into the center divider and crossed over into southbound lanes. He struck the Toyota head-on as it went southbound."

Outlines the importance of paying attention. Smart phones will be the end of us...even those good at multi tasking and not swerving have to be attentive now a days to avoid those who attempt both but suck at it... can’t tell you how many people it’s easy to pick out that are distracted on the roads by the way they weave subtly or go way slower than usual only to peek in as I pass by to see them looking down at thier phone...if it’s very intrusive I honk as I pass by and do the two fingers from my eye to the road gesture to hint at them to pay f-in attention to the road...

I'd like to know how many people are actually using FB while driving distracted?

I just want to blame FB for things.

Personally I find driving even when I don't want to be driving. Far more entertaining then anything anyone could text me, or any social media site.

As the proud parent of a boy who just received his learners permit I am so stressed about distracted drivers and his inexperience.

    Someone died.

How is it possible to ascertain what caused this tragedy?

Accidents also happened before cell phones.

    Condolences to all involved.

True, but distraction wasn’t a too common cause back then. Plus:

Also, from the article: "A preliminary investigation revealed that the GMC driver went northbound on the boulevard when for an unknown reason he veered into the center divider and crossed over into southbound lanes. He struck the Toyota head-on as it went southbound."

Unless it’s a stroke, heart attack,
drop in blood sugar or seizure...then I assumed it I guess. So you’re right I shouldn’t assume, but it’s so common nowadays...it’s scary. Outlawing cell use while driving just made it just as dangerous because not people are trying to hide their phone use which takes their peripheral far from the windshield. I believe in vehicle cell holders that are at least mounted where you have corner peripheral at the very least if you must be distracted...
