Definitely going hard shell just for aerodynamics since it will be above the cab line. Can you elaborate on why it doesn't fir the Prinsu well?

 

the side rails on the prinsu are slightly higher than the crossbars. the hardshell RTT fits just outside the crossbars so it "sits" on the side rails of the prinsu. I had to add two crossbars, on top of crossbars, to elevate the tent above the side rails to get proper mounting and eliminate all squeaking.

 

Might be able to fab something up...

This is a possibility. I would need to by shorter because the ones that came with the tent barely work on my Bed Rack. We'll look into this option

We have a ramp that we use for the 4runner and it works well. Our GSD can't lay the way he needs to because there is not enough room in the Double Cab. He was fine before his injuries because he could curl up. He completely fills up the back seat area now because his hind legs stick out like a pogo stick. I should have mentioned this before. Sucks but it is what it is.

Might be an option because we have time.

I hope we can use the stock rails. This would by far be the easiest thing to do. It's only my wife and I so lifting the tent up will be a pain in the rectal area. Makes trial and error a biznitch.

We have discussed eventually buying an FJ as a dedicated trail rig but that will be in a few years. We both think we would do more camping and exploring if we had something that was dedicated for adventures.

I'll try to come up with some ideas.

 

I would not trust the nuts to only be threaded on that small amount. they look like they are at the end of the bolts in that photo.

 

Just washed off the truck and pulled into parking lot adjacent to chill before I pick up little one and got to see what I’m fairly confident was a drug deal.

That's almost how they look when tightened to by bed rack on the Taco haha! I think I have like 2-3 threads showing. If the bolts were longer, I see how they could possibly scratch the roof "if" the rails flexed a little.

 

that's true, longer probably would touch. I have probably half an inch to 3/4 of threads showing on mine.

 

This is ideal.

 

To be safe and secure, all you need to have is 2 threads after the nut. Any more than 2 does not add anything.

 

Maybe they are custom cut for the runner. Didn't think about that did you?
