After my new wheels and tires I'm considering having this done so my computer calcs and odometer are correct. My dealer, however, maintains that Toyota corporate will not allow them to touch it, so I'll have to go to a third party shop. Has anyone else gone down this road? How did it work out for you?

I've read that most people use the Hypertech solution for this.

I don't think Hypertech has released 18 model year version yet.

So is there something different about the speedo/odo system in the '18, or have they just not validated that it works in the '18?

    I'll bet the latter.

Maybe OP can be a test case and get his unit for free. :D

@Clearwater Bill or anyone; Can we adjust this with the Matco scanner? Just so happens my lead mechanic/good friend and has one; but he's a big truck mechanic and isn't sure about it. I may go play with it today after the alignment is done.

Thanks for the info guys. @na8rboy, you are correct in that Hypertech doesn't have an official coder for the '18 Tacoma yet. Still, I may prefer to get this done by a shop instead of messing around with it myself and spending over $300. I'll see if I can get some prices locally to see how cost effective that option would be.

I've not heard anyone be successful with altering the OE gear itself. I'm not even sure TechStream is capable of this. But I don't have TechStream.

But @Jimmyh does, so he may be able to bring us 'up to speed' so to speak. (This is free pun day BTW. o_O)

Yeah, it looks like the Hypertech for the 3rd gen Taco is an in-line device that you install permanently in the vehicle. What a PITA. It would suck if it's impossible to just change it in the Tacoma's computer.

Thank you @Clearwater Bill, I also really want to turn off the seat belt chime. (Calm down everyone, former cop and medic) I commonly have weapons, dogs etc on the passenger seat and randomly the chime starts and stops. Yes, I know I can just put the seat belt on but I'd rather turn it off. Please send hate mail to @;)

I installed a Hypertech on my 2016 a few weeks ago and it works great! I'm running 285 75 16's and my stock size is 245 75 16. Took about 15 minutes to install its very simple! Pretty sure this model will work on 16-18 trucks no problem!

I read it in a few different places, along with here. Went to Hypertech site and they don't offer one for 18 Tacoma's. Contacted them and they said not released yet. No explanation as of why. They said 16/17 programmer will not work on 18's.

Nice! I read your response over there and am a little unclear about the total effect of the Hypertech device. Does the correction make MPG calculations in the computer accurate again as well?

Well that sucks. I'm going to drop them an email too. Maybe they'll release the '18 model if enough people request it.

Just got a response from HyperTech. They're working on it AND keeping track of people who request it. If you contact them about it they'll email you when it's released, so if you want one drop them a line:

"At the current time we do not yet have a tire corrector product completed for your vehicle application.
I will add your info into our product request data base so you will be notified if and when we do have testing completed.

    Thank You,

    GW"

I'm sure this has been answered already, but does this think void the warranty? Seems like something they wouldn't be happy about.

Carista. Buy their dongle ($40) and you get a free 1-month trial of their full-version software for your phone. Or use a different dongle and get a 1-week trial.

I bought their dongle and took advantage of the 1-month trial to turn off my seatbelt chimes.

Yes it should make everything correct again because your speedometer will be correct once you install it! Before I had mine when i was going 70 on my speedometer i was actually doing 75-76 with the tire size difference.

I installed the HyperTech in my Tacoma and it's been great. Easy to install, no splicing of wires, the configuration was a bit confusing. Couldn't figure out how to get to the right software page. But after 5 mins of messing with the software I found where I was supposed to be. I cross-referenced the speedometer to a gps speedometer on my phone and it is pretty much dead accurate. I found it on Amazon for a lot less than the $300 price tag. I think I paid like $211 and I don't regret it at all. What I will say is I don't believe it changes the odometer, I think it only adjusts the speedometer, I may be wrong though.
