Anybody had this happen suddenly the outside temp is indicated as -38 to -40 degrees F but is in the 80's AC will barely kick on since it thinks the heat should be on.

Something wrong with your ambient temperature sensor then
Is this for auto function or what?

I don't see why that would matter if you tell it to put ac on

I'm curious to know where the sensor is cause I've had it say one temp when truck was covered in mud then was fine after a wash

I didnt know the AC was based off the outside temp reading. You may have some issues that a dealer needs to look at.

Does sound like a warranty issue.

Hey Joe... the sensor is under the hood. Looking @ the motor, it's on your right, near the horns and about 6" in front of the rad...!!

So this is weird, after i posted this I went to the gym 90minutes later, started the Truck. The temperature showed 75 degrees (it is in the high 80's) but then proceeded to fall to 59 degrees. AC worked better but something is wrong.

Is your sensor "dangling" by any chance..??

My F150 had a bad ambient air temp sensor from the factory. It would show very odd readings and occasionally show nothing.

When the reading was wrong my AC wouldn't work. I suspect it would tell the compressor not to run when it thought it was 20 degrees out.

So, I would not be surprised if the Tacoma is the same.

well that would make sense, front was covered in mud, after I powerwashed it, it was fine and would've cleaned that exact spot.

so i took this picture look straight down in front of the radiator looks like a connection came apart, does anybody know what this connection is? Obviously I'm no mechanic but those look like they should be together. Anybody know what that connection is?

Not 100 percent relevant but my Chevy work truck does something similar. If it indicates it’s below 55 degrees my AC won’t turn on. Super annoying. No rhyme or reason why it happens. I guess it’s a bad sensor.

See if the plug matches up. If it does put it together.

Vehicle plugs are much like computers. Unique to reduce errors.

I put the plug together and went to the store, it indicates 61 degrees still pretty low. I will check it tomorrow I'm losing light outside. I will see if i can find the actual sensor tomorrow.

    Thanks for everybody's input
