so ... b4 I attempt this again... will the rear cross support come out by rotating it or just not enough clearance? It’s got 1/2” on each side towards the frame rails. I’m a bit OCD. :D Grinding/wire wheel day on the frame.

    jobs are, careers aren't

Bed is rusted out, frame is close, something up front pops every time I turn slowly, both CV boots have been torn for awhile, valve cover gasket leaking, ac broken... I could either put thousands into it and get it back to decent condition, or put that money towards something new.

Naa, you're just being picky. I bet you are qualified for all kinds of other jobs.

The only thing you listed that's really a problem is a rusted frame. If the frame is toast, then you have a problem. But a Golf! :annoyed:

I wouldn't pull the whole crossmember unless you're replacing it with something else. You can remove the tire carrier potion without any risk though.

If you put the rear bumper back on you should be able to pull that cross member out. You just want to swap having the bumper or cross member in so both aren't gone at the same time, that will keep the frame from moving/twisting around

Stock rear doesn't have much rigidity considering it is held on by levers haha. Maybe a tow hitch would be okay though. That crossmember does a lot to hold it sorta square

Agree, I stress should be able to pull the cross member. If it shifts even a hair its going to be a pita to get all the cross member bolts back in

copy that - I had thought about cutting a 4x4, or I can put the draw tight on too. I want the rust out behind the cross member. but it will clear, I’m taking it pushing forward towars the muffler side? :)

So after changing out the supercharger oil and pulley I decided that it was time to do the typical throttle body cleaning as it’s been probably 100,000 miles since my last cleaning.

    Well color me surprised .

I took off the intake tube to inspect the throttle body and had to do a double take. What, It looks clean enough to eat off of, not a spect of carbon build up after adding 100,000?

Well Didn’t even occur to me that the methonal kit I installed last year has cleaned the throttle body
Spic and span and probably the intake valves also,
so won’t have to worry about cleaning the throttle body anymore :)

Lol there ya go. It just depends on how twisty your frame has been lol. It might slip out and right back in with no issues, but if there is nothing supporting then the frame rails will move a little

I used a metal die to tap it in from my ball joint removal/installation kit. Go to Home Depot and find a pipe flange roughly the same diameter and use it as a seal driver.

When I did my rear main seal, I used a 2” toilet flange to tap it into the engine block.

I had used a plastic flange for my rear main, but it didn't transfer energy well enough for my liking so I used a block of wood tapping it around in a circle. I'll rent a bj tool - I've got to drop off some used oil anyways. Thanks for the advice!

A pipe flange is like, $0.50 it’s a hell of a lot easier than renting a kit haha
