Yeah when the lower uniball bolt snapped it pulled the CV out on the inner side. But the part that goes into the diff stayed in place I think I can unbolt the lower again and just pop out the shaft again, take it apart and get the new boot on.

It's the Outer CV that's a bitch to pull apart right? The inner shaft parts just pop right off? @Arcticelf

 

It's a little more than"pop right off" to get that tripod bearing off the shaft, but basically. And what you described is what I'd do.

Use a three jaw puller (doesn't have to be huge) to to take the bearing off, after you remove the snap ring. Alternatively, use a brass hammer, but that sucks more.

I'd also replace the inner boot while you have it open.

 

Yeah I have to replace the inner boot. It ripped in half when the lower uniball bolt snapped and pulled the shaft out.

Damn my 3 jaw broke, gotta go find some random bolts to put it back together lol (bolts on the jaw randomly came apart in the truck lost a bolt lol)

You know I thought about those, but I haven't had any issues with stock boots just yet. Maybe when I start seeing more wear on the ribs I'll buy up some SDHQ ones, but the stock boots have done me well for two years, no need to change now

 

Autozone has a 3 jaw puller you can rent for free

 

Nah I can fix my 3 jaw. It was just a simple bolt and nut on one of the arms that fell apart and was lost. I can slap anything that fits in there and it'll be fine lol

 

You need to make some fender liners! I know it doesn't rain in Cali anymore.. lol We that live out of the republic need them. lol Mine work quite well!

 

Meh my power washer gets all that

 

At some point I'll be getting all new glass mounted and fitted properly and then painted and yeah will probably get all the fixin's for keeping them protected like that. Current ones are super faded, spider cracking already from not the greatest mounting and just all around poor care on them lol.

Snap ring came right off, Tripod popped right off. There's no play in it at all, its just heavily lubed and was sliding freely on the shaft(like maybe 2mm back and forth between the end of the sloted shaft abd the snap ring). That's what she said.

 

There should be about that much free play on it, but all 5 of then I've done we're tight as a bitch on and off.

Yeah I cleaned off the grease, popped off the clip and then just took it off with my hand and had a mini panic attack when I thought it was broken or something lol.

 

As long as the splines are all in good shape.

 

Yeah they look fine, and theres no lateral movement on the tripod at all, it can just slide freely along the splines I guess.

 

Success! Battery changed, jumped on the front end a bit, no extra squeaks, suspension seems to cycle a bit just fine, no clunking. Time for a test drive!

Thanks man. Sourced a shock guy nearby that said he can revalve/rebuild my shocks next month. So yay for that.

Also finally got around to cleaning out the garage, so now I can put up the paint tent I bought like...2 years ago and finally start painting fenders. Told myself I'm doing at least the front before a trip in October I'm going to.

 

This is an awesome build. The free play in your axles is due to over articulation and if anybody makes high articulation joints for that I would reccomend you getting them. As for paint I say do the whole thing speedway blue to match the fenders/bedsides. But I'm biased
