Today was, interesting, to say the least...

I came to work to do my normal routine but it was rather early and there was nothing much to do. My boss was going for a run in a nearby state park and didn't need me back until 4pm, so I went home at about 12:15pm. Maybe an hour and a half after I got home, I was in my room on the phone with my cousin, and my boss called me.

I explained the situation to my cousin and we said goodbye. When I took my boss's call, she told me that the battery in her Element was dead and the car wouldn't even turn over. I always keep a set of jumper cables in my Tacoma, so I told her I'd come out and try to jump the Element. She texted me a "pinpoint" of her location, and used my phone's GPS to get there.

When I got there, I ended up pulling my truck into grass that cars were not allowed on, because a Tacoma's battery and an Element's battery are both on the left.

The sign specifically said "No parking on grass." My boss was like "You're not technically parking." She also said that if a park ranger or someone showed up, she'd deal with it. So, I pulled onto the forbidden grass and positioned the Tacoma so my front left was lined up with the Element's.

I connected the jumper cables and revved the Tacoma. My boss actually got the engine to turn over, and all of the power accessories worked, but the engine would not start!

Eventually, it got to the point where the battery wouldn't retain a charge, and it was so dead that the Element's power locks wouldn't work!

We gave up on getting the Element started and I drove my boss home in the Tacoma before heading to work.

It got really warm today, really fast, and it was probably somewhere in the low 80s when I arrived at my boss's location. She had been running for 30 minutes to an hour and sitting out in the sun for more than half an hour after that, so she was hot. Needless to say, the A/C was going full throttle...


My boss just got back to work after she and another coworker called AAA, and AAA was apparently able to jump it...

 

Nice guy you taking care of your boss like that.

 

She's also pretty much my best friend...

So, I also found out that the reason I couldn't get my boss's battery jumped is because it was too far gone. The only reason AAA got the Element started is because they have specialized equipment, and my boss is still going to need a new battery.

 

Sure sounds like her old battery was toast!

 

I jump started it once before, in December 2016...
