Tough balancing act to be sure. I'm in a similar situation presently. The job is a decent pay and benefits..clearly the insurance is great, which matters more now at 44 and married versus 26 and single when I started.

However, I've been trying to get a promotion for the past 18 months. Seems I'm good enough to do work 1-2 levels above my grade, not good enough to have the job and the pay. Mostly because nepotism.

My most recent refusal was a complex job in my unit, 14 years of experience and both the manager and supe send me complicated stuff to work on and their associates to mentor under me. I was given feedback that was either beyond my control (my profile on the internal site) or not true (experience that I had told them specifically in the interview). I come to find out a friend of the supe got it that has known her since high school and the person has nowhere near the time in this specialty I have.

Recently met with HR about it and it was suggested to follow up with the manager (who blew me off after the feedback when I tried to show her the profile issue) so I did and of course she had an "oh wow" moment. Yeah. BS.

True to a degree but it's rampant where I am.

That said, I have a separate pension on top of my 401K that I don't have to pay into. 5 weeks vacation too. Not easy to leave behind.

Yup it’s always the kicker... like my job for example is a slight pay cut from a few other offers I’ve had floated but i get a company vehicle (that i can use personally too) or a vehicle allowance, great benefits and a good annual incentive into my 401k, not to mention I make about 90% of my schedule and can choose to work 4am-noon or noon to 8pm or 2-10 literally whatever I want each day and that does have a pretty good value to me currently the additional values overmatch the slight difference in monetary compensation.

I'm about 15% lower than my equivalent job in the private sector, but the benefits make up for it. Not paying into social security adds some back right off the bat.

I was promised a pretty significantly revised contract because I had an interview offer that scared them. Rather than waiting to see what they come up with, I rewrote my own contract and sent it over. It'll be interesting to see if they go for it

I know a few people who had frames replaced. The dealer here told them that for most things they wouldn't charge labor if they bought the parts through them. They had it all apart anyway, so they would just be putting the new parts on instead of the old.

I’m a Toyota tech and have access to the parts catalog on TIS.

What are they quoting you for work? Don’t think I’ve quoted more than 3k and the truck was a big pile.
