Practical emergency gear to store in your Tacoma

Just kidding. I actually hardly know anybody in this area; I spend most of the week at work, and when I'm not there I'm usually working around my house instead

 

In the cab of the truck: Phone chargers (Droid/iPhone), 12v > USB adapter, first aid kit, shop towels, boots, socks, poop bags, Kleenex, sunglasses, pens, neighboring state maps, plastic grocery bags, zip ties, de-ice spray, tire pressure gauge, lighter (2), flashlight, bungees, ratchet straps, CB (and SSB) radio installed, spare CB radio and Mag antenna (for throwing in a friend's car on convoys), 30rd Glock mag, pistol safe, ax.

In my GHB: socks, hoodie, hat, warm gloves, underwear, 15rd Glock mag, 6 rd LCP mag, crank radio, charging cable (to charge a phone from crank radio), power bank/stick/block (whatever you call em), phone charging cord (droid), AC > usb adapter, flash drive, small first aid kit, tylenol, pepto, backpacking stove/fuel/pot, pop-tarts, cliff bars, electrolyte tabs, LifeStraw filter/bag, pedialite powder, wet wipes, TP, hand sanitizer, eye drops, toothbrush, lighter (2), headlamp, firestarter, duct tape, super glue, hammock rainfly, emergency blanket (2), emergency sleeping bag, paracord, hot hands (4), multitool, pen

In my "camping box" in the bed: mallet, duct tape, paracord, bellows, starter log, lighter, 12v fan, suction cup handle, hammock, hammock straps, emergency blanket, trowel, camp suds, biodegradable wet wipes, wet wipes, REI camp towel (2), garbage bags, hot hands, multimeter, leather gloves.

Things I need to add after reading this thread: Pint of Bourbon

Only if you like Bourbon. Vodka, Rum, Tequila, etc. all work equally well depending on your persuasion.

Of course, that close to Kentucky, bourbon is pretty much mandatory.

I was thinking about this subject and wanted to add something.

I bought a headlamp from Amazon last year (currently unavailable), and it has really come in handy. I have not had to do any emergency roadside repairs at night, but having a hands free directional light source would be invaluable.

Something you might not think about, but may want to consider:

Chem-lights. (Glow-sticks)

I keep a bunch in my glove box and use them more than you would think.

Power’s out? Kids walking around at night? Kids bored in the back seat on a road trip? Walking a dark-colored dog? Wanna go streaking and make sure everyone notices?

Chem-lights.

 

Phone, water, shovel, jack, spare tire, always have a pair of good shoes.

 

I am probably much more basic than most. Plus, I think carrying around a bunch of tools is just wasted space. I carry for emergencies:
Swiss Army Knife
Small Multi Tool
Full Roll Duct Tape
20' Paracord
Tow Strap
A few clean rags
Jumper Cables
A few Chem Lights
Hand Sanitizer

Everything but the jumper cables can fit in the cenyer console with room to spare. The jumper cables fit under rear seat. Some of you guys must have two hundred pounds of stuff!

Emergencies are just that.. who knows what it will be? Trying to carry everything for every emergency is silly. For example, carrying a big tool kit to change a part like an axle. Well, are you carrying a spare axle? Having tools but no axle is just useless lol.
Now takes rags as another example. With a few rags I can:
Turn them into bandages
Wipe a butt
Large wound dressing
Make a sling
Clean my glasses
Protection from sun
Padding for a makeshift splint
Make a small sack for carrying items
And countless other things

Countless uses for duct tape.
Countless uses for paracord.

That's what I mean by basic. Sure, it's not perfect but my kit can do a lot with a little!

When offroad, I also carry a SPOT PLB or other satellite unit, but anywhere you drive, at least keep an old working cellphone with cig lighter plug in the truck (it can still call 911, even without a wireless subscription).
