@Grossomotto you've been saying this for quite some time and I am curious on whether or not this the true issue...it would be great to know if all of these leakages have come from stock breathers vs aftermarket breather extension.

As you recall - mine was done about 6k miles ago and I've been on several wheeling trips and occasional water crossings but no leakage has come back. (yet)

I’m curious too, because I can’t figure out why gear oil would be pushing past the gasket even with the recall, new gasket and retorque.

    This I do know.

When I did the ARB breather relocation and unscrewed the stock breather a shit ton of air came out like it was highly pressurized, not a little a lot. Really I couldn’t believe it.

That’s why I’m staying with my theory. We’ve had members with this happening even after getting it fixed with the recall.

And I forgot to ask, did you do the breather relocation with an aftermarket like ARB?

I have not relocated my breather. I was waiting until being out of warranty/Toyota care to do so. But I am on hold for that at the moment. I did install rear brake lines and new rear shocks on Sunday. When I looked at it today there was a drip of fluid forming.

I’ve wondered about that too, if someone that does the diff mod takes their truck in for the diff warranty will they (Toyota) deny it?

Whichever the case, it looks like Toyota hasn’t solved the problem.

I wondered too, but wasn't willing to take the chance. I held off on the brake lines and shocks for a couple of months because I didn't want to touch the rear axle at all until it was documented

I took mine off and put the stock breather back on and they did the repair. Didn't want to take the chance.

That’s good but remember we have 60k miles powertrain warranty (except extended) to figure it out, then it’s all on us.

I’m not the best source for clinical data, I have 4200 miles on my truck. But, I check every week for any leaks.

Every service department will be different when it comes to their willingness to provide warranty work. I will say this though, by modifying anything on the rear diff you would be giving them the excuse to deny warranty work. If they did you'd have to work it out with Toyota and I cant say that I'd be confident that they wouldn't agree with the dealer.

Agreed, but there’s members here that have had their entire rear diff replaced under warranty even after doing the relocation mod.

    Really depends on the dealer.

To my mind, having owned many RWD vehicles over the last 50 years, that is not "leaking", just a wee bit of weeping---I'd keep an eye on it, and find some real problem to worry about. I had a '69 Ford E-300 van that leaked, made a god-awful mess and had to be topped off every couple weeks; drove it 45k miles that way...

Historically perhaps (we have owned eight over the last 30 years), but it appears they do now...
