This is absolutely freakin awesome. Great job to all of those involved with this project to shed some great info on lighting and doing a GREAT job on educating consumers. A very scientific and unbiased approach. I absolutely love it!

Absolutely awesome test and writeup! I'd have commented earlier, but I've been out of town and out of touch for 8 days. Tacoma World is lucky to have somebody with not only the technical abilities, but the energy to perform and share this kind of thing! And thank you for having the balls to blow away some internet myths about LED lighting by using science to overcome marketing too!

    Make this thing a sticky!

Hey all! First, let me say great write up, super helpful and informative! Thanks @crashnburn80 for all your work on this!

So my question is....... Has anyone mounted the Rigid SAE pods in the 3rd Gen's stock fog location with the Rigid mounting plates and used the Amber covers? I've seen mixed things online and from calling Rigid about whether the covers will clip onto the lights once they are mounted in the brackets and plates. Any photos of this setup with the amber covers?

Secondly, if @Taylor@KC HiLiTES has any insight on how much less output the Amber G4s have compared to the white, would be appreciated!

    Thanks!

Also, just spoke with Rigid again and they claim the Amber covers only reduce the Fog pod's output by ~10%. This seems low to me but I asked twice if this has been confirmed and tested and the customer care rep assured me this was accurate.......

We do not make anything that will directly fit the openings of the early 2nd gens. Only those that have aftermarket bumpers.

For our amber fog lights, we don't use a cover that will result in less output. We use actual amber LEDs to achieve that high light spectrum quality, and the output it the same as our white versions. It is just going to be perceived differently by the eye than the whiter version would be, from my understanding.

Thanks Taylor! That is interesting for sure. So essentially the Amber's should produce the same specs as the white across the board, except for the actual spectrum color?

If anyone spots a deal on the Rigid fogs, let a bro know! Those damn things are expensive with the mounting plates, and I'm not doing a front bumper for a long time.

    About halfway done...
    Hi @Taylor@KC HiLiTES

I'm thinking of getting the aluminum Pelfreybilt bumper like yours. It looked like some of the beam angles where getting cut off the G4's. Did you ever work on a solution? I was planning on getting the bumper bare so I could cut down the foglight hole to be shorter. This should allow the G4 to be mounted an inch or two forward thus gaining the full beam angle back. Do you think that would work? Just brainstorming....

Rather than cut the light holes larger, I wonder if you could slot the base mounts such that you can move the lights closer to the holes? Would look cleaner and be less work potentially.

Great post op  Thank you for taking the time, definitely needs to get stickied!

@Taylor@KC HiLiTES I’m planning to upgrade the fogs in my wife’s ‘18 T4R with G4s, from this link (http://www.kchilites.com/light-type...ed-g4-toyota-tacoma-led-fog-light-system.html) it reads like they wire up plug and play? But then it also says the Tacoma fog adapters work but just 2010-2014 for the 4Runners? Is there a 4Runner specific link or should it still be good to go? Also is there a TW coupon code?:fistbump:

Is there any data on the OEM fog lights (3rd gen specifically)? I'm curious how they fare overall. I know it's hard to justify any mods other than personal desire, but if OEM are truly awful, I'll definitely upgrade before fall.
