    Hello,

I am new to forum and have read a lot of helpful info. I need help as I have not successfully found a thread. I am paying cash for a new 2018 Trd off road or sport. Anyone have experiences paying cash for a new truck? I have read not to tell dealer you are paying cash with many articles I have read. That really does not make a whole lot of sense but I get it. Do I get the dealer to write on paper the price then let them know here is the cash? Any feedback would be helpful I dont want to over pay if I do not have too. Thanks in advance for any help. I'm grateful I get to pay cash and have no note first time ever in my life lol.

just tell them that you are still working on financing and would like to hear their offer as well. Once everything is in writting and your ride is ready ask who do I pay.

I would negotiate it as a finance deal and let them believe you are going through Toyota for the finance. And as said above once you get a price you are happy with.... pull out the check book for the full amount.

Thanks spare parts. I figured every dollar I save will go toward a mod. The truck will be my daily driver. The current dealer website has the trd off road at 33500. That's the double cab v6 with 5 bed. I'm totally happy with that or the trd off road access cab for 32827. I will have to upgrade exhaust and tires first thing.

Agree on the complete price before going to sign anything. Have a copy of the worksheet that they like to go back and forth with as you haggle on the price, bounce this off the amount your paying to make sure they didn't slip something in on you. They like to add stuff to the cost after you've already agreed on a price thinking most people wont catch it or will be too worn down from negotiating at that point to say anything. Remember these guys are shady as fuck.

Dealerships make their money on financing and the service department. That is probably where the “don’t tell them you are paying cash” idea comes from. That being said, haggle the price to where you are comfortable paying, come to an agreement and be ready to walk off the lot if he tries to change his mind. “That’s not good enough” and “that does not work for me” are good phrases to use. Salesmen know that if you walk off that lot to “think about it”, the chances of making the sale go WAY down because you probably won’t be back. I don’t really think they will change their mind when you tell them you are paying cash, but you never know, I guess

They always like to do a extra warranty I dont need it. I had a 1993 toyota way back in high school. 33x14.50 tires it went every place I took it. I got 424k miles on it. I dont need the extra warranty b.s. I cant wait to get back in the truck that gave me so many good memories. They also like to do a 500 to 1000 dollar processing fee that is b.s. I dont have to process anything but a legit cashier check. I read that cashiers check are the best way to pay when paying cash. I do not know I will see i guess.

Its not compliacted and you dont need to play games. Negotiate the price, write the check

I have been noticing commercials for 0% Fianacing or $1000 Rebate so make sure the Dealer does not keep the Rebate in your deal.

Most dealers require a cashier's check for anything over a couple thousand. I had one let me write a personal check for $5k once because they saw my credit score and weren't worried, but I've never paid cash for the entirety of a new vehicle.

Anyone know offhand what upgrades on the trd offroad 2019 compared to 2018? I'm at work I will research later and see. I know 2018 will likely be cheaper.

I paid cash for my 16 Camry. After negotiating best trade-in, best price acting like I was financing through Toyota I asked how much he could knock off if I wrote a check for the balance. They ended up taking off $500 and gave me free oil changes and tires for life. Which I never used because I traded it in before it needed it.

Maybe I am missing something, but I do not see a difference in paying cash. Don't play your cards up front; negotiate, agree, then play your hand, and play. Or, maybe they will be hungry for cash and get even a better deal...

The goal is to get this truck new and pass it down to my son in 5 years when he drives. Then daddy can use it as an excuse to get another one. Only if he makes good grades of course.

Walk in with a briefcase full of cash, lay it on the table and open it up. Say here is $33,000 dollars and this is the truck I want, make it happen.

I paid cash for my truck. I worked with the internet sales department and had the price all settled before I went to the dealership. I had a check for the full amount in hand and the paperwork took less than and hour before I was on my way home.

Had a co-worker do this once.

Took a cashiers check from his bank to several dealerships.
Informed them that was all he would give them and pointed out the truck he wanted.
Tried to hardball him and he walked out the door.

By the time he made it to the 3rd dealership the first called him back to accept his check.
