I typically park by trucks because I usually pull through. Plus they are usually kinder to my doors. It's those stupid cars with their wide doors and women in SUV's (no offense) that always ding me.

I dunno, I've got a big soft spot for first gens. They're just so cute. Plus they just seem to look so much better lifted.

I think its the size. They look like mini monster trucks to me.

If it’s any reassurance, I find your posts to be rather funny as well.

It’s entertaining to see people reactions on this thread. You guys are way too serious in a lot of ways.

Either it’s another enthusiast who is indirectly complimenting you and your truck by parking next to you or it’s a bro dozer who is trying to one up a stock vehicle. Either way, humans are pack creatures and have a tendency to desire a crowd so I don’t think there is much you can do about it.

Put sliders on that bitch and laugh when people try to ding your door. They will pay for themselves in he next two years, even if you don’t wheel hard.

I usually like to park out where the trucks park, because like others have said, I like to pull through. If there are no spots that are open to do that, I try to park next to cars that are more expensive than mine. That guy in the Mercedes C63 AMG isn't going to smash his door into my truck...

I agree with pulling through spots, I was at fault for someone backing into me when I was backing out of a spot in a parking lot, never do that again. I don't agree that the more expensive ride isn't going to ding my ride, some just don't give a fuck, you know cause they have money and are better than every one else.

It's the herd mentality, there is safety in numbers and we trucks stick together for protection from tweekers in rice burners.

The small miss you have in this thought is why I look a bit deeper to the condition of the vehicle. Cost of car does not = Give a crap.

Here is an example, unfortunately true, to act as an illustration for you.

The owner of my company drives a Porsche Cayenne. It is more expensive than my Taco. It has also, as far as I can tell. not been washed in over 3 years. I would not ride in it as it looks to have more trash in it than a college dorm. FYI he is over 50, so it is not a young dumb kid attitude.

The prior owner, his father, drove a Jaguar. Again, more expensive than my Taco. I think it was washed when he traded it in on the Land Rover he now drives, which may never see a washing not provided by nature.

Neither are car guys. Nor do they give a rats ass about it as defined by their cleaning schedule.

I take my mother to the Walmart/supermarket because she can't drive anymore. I drop her off by the door and go park in the boonies, reading TW on my ipad while I wait for her to call. I can't count the number of times other 4x4 owners of all makes will park beside me. They usually get out and do a walkaround, look underneath, etc. Most times they'll talk to me about it or ask where I got something. I'll ask about theirs and end up passing the time with a nice conversation. I don't think it's about compensation, just interest.

I’d say they are just parking their vehicles.

Whatever inferences you are making from that point on, whatever motives you are assuming they have are all on you.

Well, shit, it does make the most sense....

.....Then again I park my big ass Cummins next to my wife’s Tacoma to simultaneously intimidate her and assuage my feelings of inadequacy by underlining just how much bigger my truck is.

I take up 1+ spots when I drive my truck (even if not towing), so it's always the boonies for me. Little Elvis is doing just fine, thank you.

I seek out minivans to park next to. Sliding doors can't ding you; every door ding I've personally witnessed has been a kid in the back of a car/truck/SUV just wantonly slinging the door open.

This, minivans are fine. It’s the SUV with kids that get you.
I try to park way out in parking lots and I still find people who choose to park right next to me. I don’t get it! Some people are tone deaf or they do it on purpose. I actually feel it’s more about being dumb and being asshats. I chalk it up to the same people who fight over a front row parking spot because they can’t be bother to walk for 5 seconds by parking a little farther away. They waste more time driving around until something opens up, than walking the equivalent to 30 yards. I’m looking at you mother in law.

Parking way out, right up against a curb, I'll come out to find some douchewaffle parked over the line.

One thing though, the last few cars that we had, there would be a door ding within the first month. For whatever reason, the Taco has been ding free. Of course, I did nick / scrap up the passenger side flares in the first couple weeks. But I did those, so it is okay.

I wish all parking lots were done like Costco's. Wide with double lines.

The funny part is, I'm the guy least likely to hit your truck with my door. But until a couple of months ago, I was driving a beater just like those you try to avoid - a '97 F150 that didn't have a single straight body panel, several pounds of sheet metal eaten away by rust, etc.

I try to park far away or at least on the end so I can get as close as possible to the curb/line to give plenty of room between my truck and the car/van/truck next to me. But sometimes it can even be the kid in your car that commits the offense. I nearly lost it on one of my sons friends recently when he used his foot getting out to kick the door open. The door swung out so fast I cringed with anticipation of hearing that dreadfull thud. Thankfully there was plenty of room and the door just wafted air. My kids know better, they just looked at him like "whoa, you're done for". I gave that kid a stern reprimand about swinging doors open like that.
