I held one at the NRAAM in Nashville a few years ago. I thought it felt much improved over the standard M9.

Cool, it might be a bit difficult to find the parts for the rear sight.

 I got play with M-16 Serial No. 0001 in the armory about 15 years ago. I'd love to do a retro build for myself!

No Bullshit, it was in the AF Reserve Armory of my old unit. You know the AF had M-16's years before the Army or Marines did! I didn't get to shoot it, but I did get to fondle it. Appart from the triangluar handguard, I thought the coolest thing were the parts were green. Not black like every other military weapon I've handled.

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
That's only because Chuck Norris was AF.

The DOD probably just wanted to test them in the softest environment available with the lowest operational impact of it had failed. LOL...

I don't think that's far from the truth. I recall through the cobwebs, that the General who pushed for their purchase saw them as an easy to shoot rifle for perimeter defense. Or at least easy as compared to the M14... o_O

My friend from sundays 3 gun match. Im loving this shit! Lol.

Edit to add. 29 shooters 3 DQd so I ranked 23 out of the 26 that finished. My friend finished 20. I thought I did better but I shit the bed on the 200-300yrd stage. Most of the guys at this match are on 3 gun teams. So I have that going for me.

Arrived today. I see a lost spring and lost itty bitty pin in my future. Am I going to need 4 hands to install? I'm old and clumsy, and clumsy and old. And I have 2- 1/16th pin punches, both broken by friends that borrowed them. :annoyed:

LOL, a little trick is to work near a strong magnet. For the punch a finish nail normally works in those areas or I have been known to sacrifice an allen wrench. The magnet trick has saved me many springs when working with aluminum parts and small steel springs.

For the pin I use a small pair of needle nose pliers because I can never hold on to them. I am sure there are some YouTube instructions to install that latch also.

Installed. Found a 1/16th punch, still a little big. Found a brad that fit, damn that pin was tight! Lining up the new pin was a pita, but a pointy brad from the bottom helped, and also made a blind pin. Driving the new pin in was even tighter, but a BMFH persuaded it. :)

New latch is big enough to let my fat fingers grab it. Thanks for the advice!

I've had this forever, worth it's weight in gold: https://www.amazon.com/Wheeler-60981-Universal-Bench-Block/dp/B0047WKF84

A long time ago, I took an old delrin cutting board, cut it up, and drilled several different sized holes in it. Total cost, free.

I do small pins and spring installations like pivot pins inside a plastic grocery bag.
