It’s good that you are questioning this for yourself, its sad that so many people consider “free renting” an acceptable practice, but it’s taking advantage of a customer service that is meant to help those with product issues.

You really enjoyed it- keep it or sell it as newly used.

That front bumper though! ARB in white? Looks good, might have to consider instead of the storm trooper look.

    Lots of fun stuff
You've gotta lighten up buddy. I bought it after much consideration with the intent to incorporate the tent into my camping adventures. I learned a bunch of stuff after owning it, installing it, setting it up, driving 500 miles, watching my gas mileage, attempting to mitigate the constant whistling noise, discussing it's practicality with my SO and the 55lbs dog who sleeps with us while camping, and decided it's not suitable or practical.

You guys have decided my intention was to steal or some ignorant nonsense... then somehow a couple nutjobs found a correlation with my professional integrity. My mistake was proudly advertising I'm a cop... haters gonna hate, and I just didn't anticipate encountering such anxious people so eager to preach. My bad, lesson learned.

The jokes about my lady are responses to other people's funny replies and questions. Those posts are what's keeping this thread tolerable.

Cops are humans. I'm conflicted about a return policy... this isn't an abortion debate. If I didn't give a fuck, it would already have been returned.

    LIGHTEN THE FUCK UP.
    Mic Drop.

Those interested... once I hit 50 posts, I'll list it. I'd have already listed it, but I can't sell anything until I've made enough posts or something.

I know what morals are and don’t need to survey the internet for answers. If you take displeasure at others pointing fingers at you then stop and look in the mirror. You bought the RTT. You used it and then surveyed the internet about what to do since you changed your mind. REI shouldn’t be penalized for your decisions and then change of heart. They are responsible for their return policy and that is on them. Everything else is on you. So either quietly return it and say no more or sell it on your own.

This shouldn’t have ever been a question from someone of integrity. But it was which is why people have reacted like they did. Your career alone should have taught you to act in a manner that exemplified integrity, honesty and with a strong moral compass. If you are proud of your actions and your questioning then hold your head high. My feeling is the asking of the question about your moral dilemma shows you know it was a douche move even though it is allowed by REI. As a LEO I expect you and your fellow officers to do what is right regardless of whether it is legal or allowed. Be leaders and examples for the kids who need guidance. Lead by example. That means little decisions like this one matter.

You have heard lots of opinions. Make your decision and move on. This isn’t personal. Life provides us opportunities to grow. Think about what has been said by many and make decisions to do the same or do things different in the future.

Why I agree that your profession has nothing to do with the thread, keep in mind that you yourself described the tent has "amazing" and "incredible" and "so cool" which all sound like you are satisfied with the product.

Only after using it the first time did you realize you probably won't use it again. That's not a satisfaction issue, thats called buyer remorse.

@WhiteTacoLover I'd love to help you out and buy it from you as that is the exact tent I would like to have unfortunately I don't think I'll be in the market for another couple years! Best of luck selling it, I think that's the best route for you to go.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that bought an RTT because I thought the comfort might convince my wife participate in an activity that she doesn't particularly care for, only to find out that the tent creates just as many headaches as it solves. (Loading it on the truck before our trip, folding the tent because we need to pull the boat out of the water a day early, setting the tent back up 20 minutes later, unloading it when we get home) Great for some people, but a headache for others.

Beating the dead horse: I can't fault you for wanting to get most of your money back and move on, but dropping it back at REI does kinda seem like a pretty gray area. Maybe call their customer service and ask for clarification on the policy as it pertains to your situation? Their customer service line has always been pretty damn good to me if I've needed to cancel and order or change an order that I'd made online. Or some stupid error message ordering.

Do what you think is both the right thing and the best for your situation.
In the end your decision is the only one that matters regardless of what anyone thinks.

I am but I'd take more satisfaction seeing REI lose out on $1700. :D

Lol, I was actually compelled to return it just to spite some people on this thread.

@Exracer2 a Supreme Court Justice just announced his retirement, I recommend you throw your hat in the ring and change the retail return industries' policies from the inside. You're apparently well suited for the job and have my vote. I'll use my LEO bat-phone to put in a good word with Trump.
