Forgive my ignorance to the Tacoma, and Toyota in general. I just traded for a Tacoma and here's a few questions I have:

    1) What is the "Clutch Start Cancel" used for? My key fob doesn't have remote start.
    2) Can I get a locking tailgate handle and keep the rear camera?
    3) Are there any known manufacturing issues I should be aware of?
    4) I have traffic maps on the stock radio, is there navigation or GPS somewhere? If not, can I change the traffic map to display my area?
    5) What are these strange capped lines in my engine bay? (Forgive the state of the engine bay, I just got it and haven't had a chance to clean it.)

those capped lines are vents for the front axle and transmission

Clutch start cancel is, you don't have to push the clutch in to start it, just push and hold the button in and start the truck, even if it's in gear. If it's in gear when you do this, the truck will start rolling forward or backwards, depending on what gear you have it in.

I've had 2 2nd gen Tacoma's. A 05 regular cab and a 08 double cab. Bought both new, put 35k miles on the 05, traded it for the 08. Put 115k miles on the 08. Only thing I had done to either, other than routine maintenance, was put wheel bearings in the front of the 08.

Interesting, should they be capped if they're supposed to vent? So that's normal?

What would be the purpose or use for starting your vehicle while in gear? I feel like that would be terrible to try and move 5000 lbs of truck with the starter motor.

    Excellent, thank you!

    This is correct.

I broke the clutch linkage on my 79 CJ7 about 150 miles from home. I had to start in gear until it cranked then shift through 5 gears without the clutch the whole way home. Sounds worse than it was.

    Just a thought.

Seems like a pretty rare scenario there, I can't imagine Toyota put the button there for that purpose. Though that story does remind me of the time I had to ride my Ninja 250 home 35 miles away while it was stuck in 6th gear. Had to get a bit of a running start, then slowly feed power and release the clutch, I could get 6th gear completely engaged at 25 mph and slowly accelerate without bogging up to speed. That was interesting, I've never been more willing to run red lights & stop signs with no one around.

My money is on comfort/convenience over starting the truck in gear.

Red lights got a few puzzled looks in the Jeep lol

But, you-you posted a Tim and Eric gif, and I just referenced a quote from the exact same segment the gif you posted is from. I thought we were friends.

Tim and Eric? is that who those are? Damn I have been wondering about that for years.

I thought the cookies here would have chocolate on them and how the heck do I get them off my PC?

I always used it when I wanted to start the truck early (like in the winter to warm it up before leaving). just hit the button and turn the key, dont need to get all the way in the truck.

    it didn't happen

I had to return that blowfish at the pet store, after spending two hours in the tank and nothing happened. Don't believe all you hear.
