Would this impact wrench be ok?

I want a 1/2 impact wrench without spending too much . I would only be using it in the garage for rotating tires and maybe bust loose a few nuts here and there.

I don’t care if it has a cord, it won’t get much use and I don’t want to deal with future battery replacement. Any body have one? Will it work for tire rotation? I already have a torque wrench. Of course I will use the 20% coupon.

I know you said you don’t want to deal with batteries, but Milwaukee makes a really nice one. Battery stays charged for a long time. I have the 2861-22 and works perfect for tire rotation and a lot of other things.

 

I looked at Milwaukee, they make great tools. For my limited use, It just doesn’t make cents. (hehe)

 

Depends mostly on your use.

There is a Harbor Freight Tools thread around here somewhere, I'd check that out to see if anybody has covered that specific impact wrench.

But for $50 (and any coupons you can find) that may be worth the gamble. If it doesn't work out, well you aren't out much.

230 ft lbs is not alot. it might take the lugnuts off, but will probably struggle alot. I often use this at home when i dont feel like lugging my airtools from work.

its great, 650 ft lbs. Its not as nice and strong as the milwauke one, but for less than half the price it does my home jobs just fine.

 

Find a good used ingersol rand on Craigslist

For your planned use(once per year), go for the $50 tool....

 

I occasionally see the older model non fuel but still 18v Milwaukee 1/2 cordless impact on craigslist/ Facebook marketplace for 100$ used. Maybe there are some in your area for sale, it's super handy to be able to throw it in the truck and take it somewhere with you if you need to

 

Yea , I been looking at the Kobalt line.

 

I have that HF gun. Bought it for similar reasons. I use it for a lot of stuff around the shop though. Recently got the Milwaukee cordless since i have a few other tools in the line and it works great. HF one is fine. Mine lost the friction ring on the drive adapter so extensions/sockets fall off when i tilt it down, but otherwise it's been fine. I sometimes use a breaker bar to loosen something and then finish it with the impact.

 

Yea the breaker bar was my routine with my last impact wrench. Hopefully I wouldn’t need that on the HF one. I may spend a little more and be sure. Thanks

 

I abused that harbor freight gun for about 1.5 years and it died. For the money paid its really not too bad. If you plan on using the gun regularly though I'd go with something form Milwaukee.

 

I got the Milwaukee one and even it struggles from time to time. Not a terrible thing, may be telling you you have an issue with galling and could be close to snapping a stud using an impact that doesn't provide any feel.

 

I have this same wrench and I love it. Use it on multiple vehicles. Its strong and I have never had any issues with it. Super cost effective. Like you I only use is sparingly for truck projects so I love it.

Id be skeptical of a $50 impact gun. If it was worth a shit it would ... well.. be worth more
