I see that the images posted by some of the testers are for the 3rd brake light for 3rd gens. Anything for 2nd gens available yet? Also, this might be a dumb question, but are these lights legal in California (For break lights)? The light intensity seems pretty high from the Bajas.

Seems like most states adopt federal standards for brake lights. And majority don’t impose a max brightness level, but rather they have a minimum brightness level. Like needs to be visible from “X” feet away.

I think that's similar for the 3rd brake light flasher as well. "Technically" no vehicle is supposed to have flashing red lights but at the same time a trooper is going to see that and know that because I have that, that could be 1 less rear ending accident he has to write a report on and ends up letting it go.

I'm surprised someone has not made a CNC version out of a block of aluminum. Anodized black and Bobs your Uncle....

How hard is it to pull back the liner and how does it look when all buttoned up? Never pulled a liner off before.

    Sweet product, Btw!

It's pretty simple. Just pull down the dome light and the two hangers back there. I had to take mine down to run the wires for a rear facing dash cam system. Wish I would've had one of these to toss on at the time...

Two hangars in the back, two oh-shit handles in the back. 1 screw in each C-pillar to pull the plastic out far enough to release headliner. You will make some creases handling the liner but when put back the creases disappear.

    Great idea!

Take the initiative and seize the opportunity!

Take your light to a fab shop, get it bid to CNC each piece, figure out your pricing, do a group buy and offer them for sale here.

You will probably find that the cost to individually CNC each piece, then anodize, plus the typical 40+% profit margin (not to mention the cost of the lights) would make many folks on this site scream and holler about how expensive it was. Then, someone else will post up questioning why someone else isn't doing all the leg work and investing the time and money to do it some other way... like getting molds made and going into full production.

Typical. With all the talent here why is it such a stretch to suggest a CNC version? Of course you get points for your creative passive aggressive slam, but as I said there is all kinds of talent here.

Think about it, it is the production time, materials cost, pricing margin, effective use of materials given the calculated amount of stress the object will sustain.

Would it be slick to have a CNC machined, anodized, billet aluminum brake light housing? Sure.

But be realistic, how many people will pay the no-doubt large amount extra for a CNC billet-aluminum brake light housing that could otherwise be sturdily and inexpensively printed from black, glass-reinforced nylon plastic. If that light housing was a component that had to handle tremendous stress, like a control arm, then absolutely CNC it from billet aluminum.

My post wasn't a slam, it was simply a recognition that so many people, offer the up the "Hey, here's a good idea-- someone should do xxxx"... without offering a solution themselves.

Yes, there is a lot of talent here, and in fact you could contribute by offering solutions. Everyone always expects everyone else to invest the time and do the work, when they themselves could actually muster-up and spend even a little a bit of time to figure out how to get it done if it was important to them.

All I'm saying is if it's a great idea, will benefit others and is that important to you, then stop by a machine shop or two while driving home one day and ask how much it will cost to make your idea reality, then post that up and offer a solution and see if others are interested.

    JL

Your gas cap has made my life much less stressful. Looking forward to this light being made available, the stock light is so inadequate with a softopper.

To add on to that the original concept for this brake light over in the group buy section months ago featured a metal fab build and the guy basically dropped the project and meso saw there was decent interest to field the 3d printed version.

If someone saw profit in it, it would be done. But I’ll say this, you make a run of brake lights, now you got to sell them, and people don’t understand that when the time comes to buy, people flake out and you are left with a trickle of sales. With 3D printing you simply print them up to meet demand, no big deal. I’ve seen people in the BST with great ideas make a run of product then people who were supposedly interested disappear.

Have you thought about selling these through shapeway? That way you still make money but people can order them as needed.
