Then it makes me wonder how it is anchored so that it doesn't slide around or tip over.

That's fine for a day, but it will only get power while the vehicle is in use.

It’s locked with a cable lock, anchored to custom tie downs in the bed. As you can see from the pic, weather was not an issue, but I just cover it with a tarp in the rain. It’s powered with a 12v plug I wired in the bed off the stock battery. I’ve rolled like this for over a week without any issues. As long as you drive everyday it’s fine.

    Cool. Good info to know!

I'd be curious to see the tie downs and how you are connecting it. What gauge wire did you run to the battery?

those things are only a couple amps max at 12V, so really, any wire would work... I'd probably use Marine 12/2 just cuz I overkill everything and its really nice wire to work with :)

compressor fridges are *WAY* more power efficient than the absorption fridges found in most RV's or those dreaded peltier barely-cool things.

Nope, have lots of catch-up work to do to get it satisfactorily trail-ready for me, before I take it on long trips again.

    I used 10 gauge wire.

I use one of the stock rear passenger tie downs and drilled and bolted 3 others through the bed. Nothing fancy.

A couple from Jasper NP, Alberta.

In the last 3 weeks, we have visited Rocky Mountain NP and Glacier NP in the US, and Banff, Kootenay, Yoho, Jasper, Waterton Lakes, Glacier, and Revelstoke National Parks in Canada.

Unfortunately, its time to head for home tomorrow...

I have one and the manual calls for (IIRC) a 6mm wire. Looking at conversion charts, that would be equivalent to about a 9 awg wire. When I first hooked mine up, I used wire that I had and it was WAY TOO SMALL. I had to re-do it with a bigger wire. Since it equated to 9 awg and that wasn't an option, I had to choose between 10 and 8 awg.

I ended up using 8 awg. Most people I talk to since then (about a month ago) have said that they are using 10 awg and that seems to be sufficient. The ARB kit (again, IIRC) uses 8 awg wire. I didn't want to have to redo it a 3rd time, so I went bigger.

Sorry to all for the tangent. To get this thread back on topic...

In fairness, I may have posted this pic before, or maybe others from this trip. This was in the Ozarks in Arkansas.

I passed the 5000 mile mark yesterday... and still have to drive from Hinton, Alberta to Atlanta, GA... so we will be well over 7,500 miles total.
