Looking to sell a 1996 GMC Sierra 2500, 2WD, extended cab, long bed pickup with 157K highway miles. Had new GMC 6.5L diesel engine under GM warranty at 98K.

When I get this sold I will need a replacement and need some ideas between Nissan trucks, Ford trucks, and Toyota trucks. Have no need anymore for the diesel pulling power or the expense of diesel parts, but think I want an extended cab (king cab), 2WD, auto trans., but trying to decide between Frontier,Titan, Tacoma, Tundra, and the Ford F150.

The other major question or concern is engine: I4, V6, small V8 or larger V8 ??????

Please give comments and ideas about which way I should go. Probably the last pickup I will need to purchase-----------------------no longer a spring chicken !

Thanks in advance for your input !!

    Welcome!

Considering this is a Tacoma forum, the obvious answer you will get here is Tacoma or Tundra. I looked at both the Frontier and Titan when trying to decide on a new truck. I didn't care for the Frontier at all. It is outdated, and the main thing that killed me was the turning radius. It is awful. The Titan is nice, and it comes with a 5 year, 100k mile warranty. However, the unknown reliability and resale value deterred me. Personally, I wouldn't even consider the F150 (or any other of the Big 3 domestic trucks) due to reliability concerns. I am very happy with my V6 Tacoma, and when it comes time for a new truck, it will either be another Tacoma or a Tundra. Toyota reliability and resale cannot be beat.

Sounds like first you should decide if you want a full size or mid size truck. So either Tacoma or Tundra... :)

Wouldn't new tires be cheaper and easier than regearing?

Never consider the I4 if you do long highway runs.

Welcome to the TW family! If you want a truck that lasts, get a Toyota.

Ok. BTW, that's what I have, in a '13 5 lug model Tacoma, and it meets my needs just fine. Doesn't mean it would meet yours.

You don't tell us anything about how the truck will be used, other than no heavy tow. How it will be used matters. Terrain, distances, etc. Futzing around town to HD and hauling a couple bicycles is one thing. Running up and down mountain grades and cross country is another.

No Tacoma has a v8 factory

Are you wanting new or used?
