Engine running horrible codes P0301 & P1300 Cylinder #1

I replaced the coil pack #1-4 last week, got spark back. It ran better for four days and went back to what it was doing. Last night changed plugs and wires, nothing changes. Still not getting spark through wires. Faulty new coil pack?? all connections checked and are tight. any suggestions?

Sounds silly - and perhaps it is, but I've seen (and had happen) weirder things happen in other vehicles.

We had some weird issues in our vette - where we were getting codes & sensor problems. We changed the battery and it's been fine ever since.

 

Had this happen on my VW GTI. You probably got a bad coil pack. But check the wires going to it. VW's were notorious for those wires losing insulation and grounding causing problems. VW was up to "K" series coils when I had to replace mine (started at A and didn't get it right until "I" or "J". IF the wires to the coil have bad insulation problems there are heat blocking materials you can wrap the wires in.

 

The P301 code is for a misfire in cylinder 1. The P1300 code is for a problem with the ignition system, that uses one coil for two cylinders. I'd look at the coil for cylinder #1, and all the wiring around it. I'd say the misfire code is the cause of both of the codes.

If you didn't already replace that coil, I would. If you have, make sure it's on all the way, and the connector is good on the end of it.

Thanks, for the opinions! I bought a new coil last week and it must have gone bad, so the auto parts store swapped me for another new one. I put it in yesterday and we're back to normal.

 

If it fails again, try a factory part. A lot of mis-fire codes are caused by aftermarket plugs/wires. It's so common, it's the first thing we check when we see any P300 codes.

Be sure to replace the boots under the coils. Many wire kits don't come with them.
