ok im not new to audio. Installed headunits, speakers, amps, subs, and built enclosures too.

I ordered a Metra dash kit, Scosche wiring kit, AVH-2300NEX.

I will eventually track down the steering wheel controls from the right side of the steering wheel in the 4runners because all mine has from the factory are audio controls, nothing for phone.
So I am wondering which PAC system or steering control module I’ll need and also which bypass I’ll need to Apple CarPlay will work even while in motion

Ordered the CRUX like ********* uses. The reviews said works flawlessly on their Tacoma’s. But I ordered the bypass as well
    Thank you!

Also thinking I may want to run a male/femal USB extension into a switch blank somehow. Don’t want a cord just hanging out of the dash somewhere, would rather take a few extra steps and do it right. At least look nicer
All of the “USB ports” I see are for charging though

Ok I have the CRUX unit for steering controls. But help me, make sure I have this right.

    On the CRUX unit
    Yellow is 12v constant
    Red is 12v ACC
    image.jpg

    Pioneer
Yellow is terminal supplies with power regardless of ignition position (constant)
Red is 12v controlled by switch (Acc)

    I’m reading this right, right?

Ok I’m an idiot. I was confusing myself. Alright well now about this micro bypass, I got the remote and ground, easy.

The “reverse” side goes to the light green from the radio only, but on the back of the pioneer there’s a “violet/white” which says “this connection enables the unit to sense wether the car is moving forward or backwards”
The bypass on the light green wire should do this now right?

violet/white is for the reverse trigger i.e. tail light +( unit gets a 12volt signal when you put it in reverse and displays your back up cam)

The bypass' purpose is to let you use all the radio function when the vehicle is in motion.

I know, but I didn’t know if that violet/white needed to be connected since I was using a bypass anyway.
    You don’t btw
Everything is hooked up and working great. Need to get a 3.5 to 1/8” audio connector to get the aux port to work.
But besides that, got everything done. It was a PITA getting that mic wire behind and through the dash to get to the driver side floorboard though.

BTW, these dash kits are garbage. Half ass fits

I know this thread is old but I am wondering how the radio looks when it’s sunny outside. I already have a hard time seeing the stock radio display at times and with the pioneer angled like it is, I am worried I would be impossible to see. I wish it could tilt the other way.
For what it’s worth, I’m installing this radio in my FJ and I love it. I want one in my Tacoma as well but worried about glare.

    Any feedback from anyone?
    Thanks!

I don’t have a problem really. At least not yet. I’m sure if the sun was shining directly onto the screen it’d be hard to see, but I don’t see that happening much at all
