New England B.S. Thread

I'll have to check since I think it goes up after my 2 year mark (August) but I can only accrue 120 hours PTO, and they fuck us on shut downs, they make us use our time off even though I could give 2 shits less if I have 4th of July week off or not. I'd rather use my time when I want to use it. So next week i have to use a minimum of 32 hours PTO

 

Last year I only used one sick day (can't remember what I had), and even left vacation and personal days behind...

 

I can carry over two weeks of vacation days from year to year, but I lose personal days if I don't use them.

Nice! I wish I could carry over ANY days... but oh well, can't complain since I get what I get for having been here as long as I have, and luckily my co-worker, current boss as well as previous boss, are all cool about taking a day off even if it's "last minute".

 

I often give some back.

Part of it is because I get a ton of paid time off. That's how a public school district tries to compensate for having lower salaries than the private sector.

 

I have the same one minus the “xr” been good to me for the past 2-3 years around the house and such

 

I can only cash out if I quit or get fired. I only have to use 45% of my earned time per fiscal year, however.

 

All this talk of vacation and sick days.. I don’t get any paid vacation or sick days. If I want a day or need a day I just don’t go to work and don’t get paid. Kind of sucks but it’s not bad

 

Nice. I have a couple of these and the new smaller one. Careful with that thing, it will break shit. It's a beast.

 

One of the downfalls to being an apprentice though

 

We get un limited sick time, and can roll over I believe 1 week of vacation.

I can't recall more than 2x in the past 5 years I've used suck time for me. On the other hand I do use it when one of the kids in sick since the wife travels so much. Any time they have over 100 temp they have to leave daycare and can't go back for a min of 24 hours ( i.e. that's basically 1.5-2 days automatic sick time unless they let me work while I have them at home).

 

I worked the same job before as I am now, but just as a "part time" employee. I still worked 40hrs/week but didn't have benefits. The nice thing was being able to take a day off or whatever without requesting it months in advance.

 

You're young and relatively un-attached, take some damn vacations. Trying to be the best at working is good for the career and wallet but you physically need time off. I wish we did more vacations prior to having giblets, that's for damn sure.

Even after I top out though at journeyman I won’t get vaca days or anything. Its being union instead of private like working for eversource or something

 

Ah gotcha. Must just be the way my uncle's schedule is set up then. I know sometimes he will have a week and half off just due to the way the schedule works out

 

Ya I know you mention he does high tension work so he probably works for Par or someone along those lines. Because they work so much, the company usually gives a week off here and there. Most of the high line companies work 7 12-14 hour days
