How many retaining wall blocks should I load?

After work today I'm going to Lowe's and buying 65 retaining wall blocks. They weigh approximately 30 pounds each. If I take 1/2 of them home today that will be 960 pounds. I have never carried anything in the back over 600 pounds. What's everyones opinion here. These blocks are 4"x8"x12".

 

I have the TSB 4 leaf pack.

 

Payload capacity is ~ 1280LB's

So I would imagine you plus the 960lb's would still be under. I see you have the TSB - I'd say you'd be OK...

 

Id do two trips 30 each about 1000lbs to be safe, if not too far, You may be pushing a bit with all 2000lbs.

 

Why not load out to GVWR? (check the data plate on driver's door pillar)

Then you'll be able to drop by your Toyota dealer on the way home and have 'em order the TSB springs for you if you hadn't done it yet.

 

Note that the 1280 LB's is TOTAL payload! including weight of driver, passengers and the accumulation of miscellaneous stuff that finds it's way into the cab, underseat and in the tool box!

 

If you want them all at once, find out how much it is to have them delivered and save the wear and tear. Shouldn't be that much.

 

I'm only 16 miles away from Lowe's.....so, doing it in two trips won't be that big of a deal. If the total payload is 1280 pounds.......32 Blocks @ 30# = 960# + Myself @ 197# = 1157 pounds. At the time I do not have any other extra weight from any other items in the truck.

 

That is your safest bet right there...Throw a few more in the first load or whatever...but a little under weight gives you that safety buffer. And if you haven't driven with this much stuff before- It'll give you a feel for it.

 

I did about 1000 lbs of topsoil with my stock springs. It was a bit rough on the bumpstops, but didn't seem to handle too dangerously...I'd skip the freeways and take it slow on the back roads...
