Hello Everyone, I am in the market for a new Tacoma Sport and I’m noticing that their are very few Sport models with sunroof option. My local dealers have plenty of Sport models but none have the tech pkg to include the sunroof. I’ve been told at one dealer that they can search for one but that can take time.

My question is, with the sliding back window, does the open rear window let in air in the cabin without having the side windows open?

I love the Sunroof in my Off Road, its so nice to open it along with the rear window. If I were you I would wait and get what you want, only negative about the Sunroof in the Tacoma is that it takes up a little head room.

Yes. During my test drives, I felt plenty of air coming in and it wasn’t so windy that it was distracting.

Thanks guys, I’m still debating over waiting for a sunroof or not.

I feel like a giant in Taco's that have sunroofs, my hair touches the roof liner. If you're over 6 feet, I would think about it carefully.

I would . I love mine and driving with the sunroof tilted and the back window open is perfect. Might want to limo tint it though .

Only time I've ridden with my rear sliding window open was on a long road trip.

I opened it fully and rolled along down the highway. At times, I'd crack the rear door's windows (Double Cab config) and the cabin noise was minimal and the air flow really nice. Radio and bluetooth cellphone usage via speaker was just fine at interstate speeds.

Nothing better than fresh air when you are on the road.

I really wanted a sunroof.....until I sat in a Tacoma that had one.

I'm 6'4" and the Tacoma without sunroof is adequate for me. My son is taller and it's not a great vehicle for him.

I can wear hats without problem....no contact with headliner (probably not a Western style hat, though).

Not sure how tall you are.....but I would definitely advise finding a 3rd Gen with one and trying it out first.

I would think about it very carefully even if you're NOT over 6'. I'm 5'11" and skipped the Premium Package because the interior of the truck just felt too claustrophobic to me with that moonroof. It's not much, but it was just enough to make me decide against it.

It all depends on your body shape, but I'll agree here. 6'1 and my head literally rested on the roof. I was blown away. My wife's rav4 with sunroof nets 6 inches extra headroom for me and the Tacoma had zero. I ended up not getting one and don't miss it at all.

Skipped the sun roof for many reason. I don’t need the sun rotting out the seals and then have foam falling on you later. Also being 6’1” I sat in the sun roof version and my head was maybe an inch or two away speed bumps would have been near concussions

I did hit a speed bump, nailed my head. Not fun. It always makes me laugh in these threads where guys at 6'3 will chime in and say it's no big deal. I imagine them walking around town with their heads tilted to the side.

Made me think of my son, and our government’s wisdom. He’s a 6’4” submariner.

My Grandpa was 6'4. He spent time on the USS Midway. I was able to go on it a few years ago in San Diego, he must have walked around with a permanent concussion, lol. At 6'1 I was ducking all over the place.

How many inches does the sunroof eat compared to a non sunroofed taco? Seems to be a serious deal for tall folks...

I've got 4 inches to spare in my non sunroof truck. Head resting on the headliner of the sunroof truck... not exactly scientific, but I'd bet it's close to that.

The moonroof is part of the Premium package (code OF) in 2018, not the Tech Package. Premium means that in addition to a moon roof you also get leather, heated seats, climate control, JBL, etc.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-tacoma-model-package-option-costs-master-list.388345/

Tech is easy to find, but most dealers around me have zero Premium Package trucks in stock. I've been hunting down an OR with premium and finally found one to test drive / sit in. Wrong color though, so I'm ordering one instead. Sport might be a little different but afaik moonroof = Premium Package.

To find them on dealers' websites, sort by highest price first. For the ORs I was looking at the MSRPs were in the lof 40k range, anything below didn't have premium.

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.
I would trade out the sunroff on my OR in a heartbeat. Not just due to the leak potential, but that lost headroom sucks at 6'4"!

It does, but there is a warning in the manual about it letting in CO.

Also, I specifically bought the Pro because I wanted leather seats WITHOUT a moonroof. It was just too cramped for me with one (as others have suggested). I strongly suggest test driving with and without. Plus, I don't need a potential leak point living in Oregon.

Few guys here on TW that already have leaking sunroofs on 2016-17 Tacoma's,that insane that the sunroof leak's on a 2 year old or less truck.
