    haha, creeper...

Ours will find stars and other deep sky objects, planets, etc... too. You have to center it on a few "alignment stars", then it will track whatever you want.

Here's how we use ours during the day, at the 2017 Total Solar Eclipse in Eastern OR:

Oh man mine is nowhere near that nice. We bought ours at the Discovery Channel store when that was still a thing.

I've really never gotten any telescope to work worth a damn.

Me neither. I don't remember a single time I used it to look at space. I used it during the daytime to see what cars were driving on the San Mateo Bridge about 20 miles away.

Those actually aren't that bad of scopes, for the price. There are some real crap ones out there. The Celestron is our 2nd one. Our first is a 80mm Meade that's now the kids' scope. It's much easier/quicker to set up, but obviously not as powerful.

It can be frustrating at first. Part of the problem are people's expectations with what they can see. You see all these really cool full color images in magazines, but when you look through a consumer telescope, all you see is a dim fuzzy grey blob, if anything at all. When you realize those images are usually either from Hubble, or represent hours or days worth of long exposure photography, it puts it into perspective a little. Through the eyepiece, you usually just see fuzzy grey blobs simply because our eyes aren't sensitive enough, and we're also fighting light pollution.

Yep. Taking our's on our camping trip next week down 395 in the Eastern Sierras.

I see people spend thousands on so-called light buckets (large diameter scopes), thinking it'll let them see dimmer objects, but the problem is that all you end up doing is magnifying the light pollution. If the object you're trying to look at is dimmer than the light pollution, Hubble won't be able to see it...

Dark skies is where it's at.

You heading down toward Mammoth? Check out Laurel Lakes if you get a chance, nice 4x4 trail to a secluded couple of small lakes (getting more popular these days though). I was up there about a month ago but could only get halfway to the lakes, was still too much snow up there.
