I grew up on Maui, and always knew someone with a truck for fishing, offroading, or some kind of activity. After moving to Oahu for school in 2013, I graduated and moved back. Getting a truck was on top of my priority list. I had been looking for a truck for the previous year, while still on Oahu. After a previous deal on an amaxing 2012 White Access 4x4 resulted in the owner not producing a clean title when I had the cash, I turned to the possibility of a brand new truck.

I heavily flirted with the possibility of owning a brand new truck, but wasn't impressed with the 3rd Gen Tacoma's and the price they fetch for here in Hawaii. Along with all the useless street mods and overprices markups, I almost turned to the cheaper options with a Chevy (thank god I didn't do that :ballchain:). One of my best friends owns a ZR2, loves the truck, hates the dealership. We are pretty limited with dealership options in Hawaii.

To cut to the chase, while riding shotgun in my buddy's truck, I found an amazing craigslist ad that looked too good to be true. I was in the mountain's with some shitty service, but was able to send a text off to tell him I'd be on the way. Turned out to be the best decision this year. Here's a couple pictures that I have for now, will find more later.

It's a 2001 Standard V6 SR5 with TRD-Offroad (limited-slip lockers at the push of a button). I've only put about 2.5k miles on it at 178k now. There's more to add, but I'm headed to work and will check back in later! I look forward to many more years with this beauty.

    Welcome to TW:thumbsup:

Looks like a nice truck man! The 3.4 is absolutely bullet proof and the 5 speed won’t let you down. Only thing of concern would be living on the islands is rust (I know it’s hard to avoid) but if you stay on top of it the truck will last you so long :hattip:

I've heard such great things about the 5VZ-FE. The previous owner was a firefighter who purchased it from his buddy in the coast guard. According to him, the timing belt was done around 150k miles. I opened up the front and can see that the belt is in good condition with white logo paint still looking decent. So I'm looking at doubling the miles on this thing at the least ;) As far as rust checks go, it looks to be fairly solid. The bumpers, under the plastic fenders, and frame all look like nice. Some surface rust that i'll be buffing out, and other very minor spots that have been noted. At least I don't have to deal with any road salt out here :mudding:
