I have the A/T P and A/T Temp lights on my PreRunner. Strangely enough the dash connectors were pinned for it, but there was no bulb in the sockets as expected.

I re-pinned the dash connector harness and used the A/T wire pigtails to control my 4HI and 4LO position lights where the RR DIFF LOCK and ABS lights are.

Yup, had me wondering for a second. Back in 2010 I thought it was 02 & up that had the AT Temp light. Then after talking to a few guys with 4x4s it seemed like it was a 4x4 thing. But whatever, doesn't matter, that was a long time ago when I was wondering. I don't have an AT Temp light but it's kinda use less if it lights up at 150°C.

So weird, so 01 must be the unicorn year? 98 prerunner has it huh & 98 has ABS also? Was ABS an option? No ABS on my 01 prerunner.

That because your truck was 90% 4x4 before you actually made it one. His truck couldn't be further from one.

Theyre all setup for it and have everything but the sensors on non abs trucks. So you have to treat them like they have abs or you'll buy the wrong parts.

WTF? All this time I though 01-02 never had abs & 03-04 came standard with abs. I remember when buying my truck, not a single 01-02 had abs in my area. I take it if the the truck had abs, then they had vsc also?

VSC is still super unicorn rare for a first gen taco, I don't know when they have it and when they dont. If they had VSC they had abs but vice versa isn't guaranteed

I remember looking at an 03 that had vsc back in 04, well it was listed as having it. They wanted more than I could afford.

Here's something I've wanted to confirm, if you have abs, when you turn on the elocker, does abs disable & the abs light turn on? I didn't think so but I ran into a guy once that said so.

Go try to slide your truck in some gravel, does a VSC light come on and does your truck beep at you. It's a pretty rudimentary system, just detects wheel slippage like abs and modulates power away from the slip and cuts most engine power.

I don't have ABS on my taco. But if I take my 93 Land cruiser out of AWD and put it in 4WD it cuts abs, if I put it in low it cuts ABS, if I engage a locker it cuts ABS. So that would make sense on a taco too

Most don't, it cost more and doesn't work very well on the taco because it cannot really help the drums much if at all.

IIRC if you have VSC your master cylinder will have an extra pump & electrical stuff on it. 4runners more commonly had VSC than Tacomas.

ABS has been around for a while.

I also had the gas light and the windshield washer reservoir lights - which surprise surprise weren’t pinned or had bulbs either.

You wouldn’t believe how much I have relied on that non operational gas light.
