This isn't a whining post...just curious what everyone thinks. It ceases to amaze me that trucks (at least Toyota, haven't looked at other companies) don't offer floors that aren't mouse fur - especially ones advertised as "off road vehicles". I'm not afraid to get my truck dirty, and I often do, but I'm also a fanatic about keeping it clean in between bouts with trails. There is not a floor mat in the world (currently have WeatherTechs) that keeps mud and sand off the carpet...and the mouse fur is a PITA to clean. Why can't companies offer a floor that is akin to a bedliner-type material instead of carpeting? Cost? The "luxury" look and feel? I remember my father had an old Ford that had just a plastic (or whatever) floor. Hell of a lot easier to clean...he would just hose it down.

I don't know, maybe I'm just a party of one on this...

Because most buyers don't want a truck. They want a car with a pickup bed.

I couldn’t agree more. That’s one of the features I loved about the FJ Cruiser. Rubber floor that could easily be sprayed out with a hose when needed. Wish the taco came the same way.

I thought 2nd gens at least had a vinyl floor option on the base DBLC. I have a base RC, why is there carpet. I remember the first time I took a ride in the back of a Trooper's car, or was it the front? Anyhow the car had a vinyl floor of some kind, I thought it was a smart option.

You think people whine about noise in the cab now? Can you imagine the crying with a solid floor? One of the carpet functions is to absorb sounds.
I've seen other types of carpeting before, and the type we have isn't that hard to clean as long as they stay dry.

I removed the carpet from my 2nd gen and replaced it with the vinyl option. Does 3rd gen not have this option?

There are many reasons, because I have had several trucks with a hard rubber floor, let me list a few:
    1. very few would want it. It gets ugly very quickly
    2. It is slick as hell when you have wet feet.
    3. It makes any noise in the cab much louder.
    4. Road and wind noise is much louder.
    5. Any hard plastic or rubber will scuff

There's five. I had a Chevy in the 70's and a Ford in the 80's and an Isuzu P'up in the '90's that all had that type of floor. Oh, a few Jeeps in that time frame had it too. I hated those floors. So you could clean them easy. Big deal.

Good post OP, I've thought the same thing many times. I've got the floor liners and they cover up most of the carpeting, but if there's a replacement of full rubber or vinyl or something I'd buy it.

I had a 2015 Chevy Colorado extended cab built and I chose the rear seat delete. Well when you do that you do not get carpet but full length black vinyl flooring. Like you said it is allot easier to clean. I just took a wet soapy rag and wiped my floor out. I'm like you....I don't know why the floor covering is not a option as to have cardboard mouse hair carpet or vinyl flooring. Especially if you order a truck and wait 3 months for it to be delivered.

I thought this post was about mouse fur in the vents or something, but yeah- these trucks are so fancy dancy with all their special electronics and soft interiors, that they wouldn’t stand a chance of surviving a pack of gnawing bunnies and mice, and their upholstery and rugs would be severely damaged by wet muddy clay covered boots. They’re not nearly as rugged as any of their predecessors were. But I like them!
