I installed the core/hurst on my taco today. The noise is negligible. I ordered it 2 weeks ago, it shipped to me in 10 days.

I can confirm it came with a stick relocation bracket already installed. The stick is dead center in the boot like the factory and it angles towards the driver. What a difference in feel! 1,000 times better. Reverse is slightly harder to engage but not bad. The install was easy, fitting the console over the new shifter was not a problem whatsoever. Thanks for all of the previous write ups, I did have to give the old shifter a good whack with a hammer to break it loose.

I used Moly grease on the new plastic shifter bushing-it wasn't greased very well out-of-the-box. A box cutter's razor blade made quick work in prepping to remove old sealant on the old shifter.

So far I'm happy with the purchase and thrilled the install was so easy. It took me 3.5 hours but most of that was me cleaning interior bits that were newly exposed (previous owner must have decided to pour out a coke all inside the console area!)

Mine has been on since March and is SIGNIFICANTLY louder now. I'll be tearing into it soon to see whats causing it. Love the feel though.

Did you use the rubber grommet that tightly fits the boot to the stick or the factory round chrome grommet?

I did use the rubber grommet and it was a snug fit getting it on.

Same here- i figure the factory one would be louder. Someone mentioned earlier in this thread that they put in top-of-the-line trans fluid and it got rid of all gear noise. Beyond that I have no clue, good luck!

Thanks for running through it with me though. Im running the redline mt-90 now and just changed it when I did the shifter to double up on quiet haha. My issue appears to be 2nd, 4th, and 6th where it sounds like the shifter is resting on metal to metal in the trans (plenty of clearance in the shift hole sheetmetal wise). If I get anywhere with a remedy I'll post back.

Just finished installing the Core shifter on my 06 reg cab. The feel is much better than stock. The one thing about the R155F is the breather that was installed on the stock unit and the lack of one on the Core shifter. I contacted Core and they said their shifter is vented internally so there is no need for an external one.

Thats the correct shift pattern on your 06? I thought 05 was the switch to 6 speed.

I don't have pics yet. Just installed mine on my 07 xrunner. I did cut the bottom boot per the instructions and it was difficult to get that part back on. The shifter handle, I didn't use the cheap lock washers that it came with. Instead I used thick washers and red locktite. I haven't really driven it yet other than to pull it down the driveway. It seems like the knob height is higher, and reverse took a hard slap to get in. I'm contemplating swapping to a weighted knob.

I've been waiting to also replace the gear oil, used redline mt90. With the shifter off & trans drained, I was able to dump it in through the top instead of dealing with those pumps.

The switch was only in the V6s, 4 cylinders stayed with the 5 speed.

Last week, I did the hurst core short shifter install, also dumped gear oil and filled with redline mt90. 4.0, 6 speed manual 2007 xrunner.

Overall it definitely feels better. I thought my stock shifter handle had mushed epoxy. The handle wasn’t perfect but the white bushing was totally destroyed.

The new shifter is taller. It feels nice and firm, notchy, short throws. I did the acumulator delete mod months ago, replaced the leaking clutch master cylinder a few weeks ago, then the hurst shifter and gear oil change recently.

Here’s my question. I’m getting what might be described as a grinding noise that’s closer to sanding, similar to a really bad vacuum leak. If I rest my hand on the shifter knob, I can tell the noise is coming through the shifter. Yesterday I drove it about 15 miles, the noise seemed to go away as it got warmed up. Today the noise is still there but, not as loud, again as it warmed up the noise subsided. Should I be concerned about this noise or is it normal?

The stock shifter has sound deadener within the stick. The Core-Hurst stick does not so you will hear gear noise . You can stuff some type of insulation around the base of the stick or wrap the base of the stick with something like an old bicycle tube.

Thanks, I like the tire tube suggestion. One of the reasons for going to the hurst was my stock sound deadening epoxy was failing, or at least so I thought. My white bushing was completely failed, the stock stick was going but not as bad as I thought it would be. If Gadget had a stick to trade with me I would have done that along with the urd ss kit.

My concern was that the noise isn’t normal. I’ll give the wrap it in rubber idea a try.

Edit : Fuck, wrong section, got lost in the 2nd side of things, I'm nostalgic I think

Just got the shifter installed today, just wow! Night and day difference, but I'm gonna have to work on the sound isolation, can't stand it lol

Got mine installed the other day. What a night and day difference. Now just waiting on URD clutches to be back in stock so I can put that in along with the Clutch Masters throwout bearing.

FYI Highly advise buying a couple of these.

    https://core-shifters.com/collectio...ushing-tacoma-fj-cruiser-v6-ra60-6-speed-only

The dude that runs Core/Hurst shifters sent me a new bushing cup after my original one started getting some crazy slop after a short amount of time. He said he used some new material for the new bushing and it lasted much longer. It's a couple years down the road now I've been noticing more and more how much slop i have whilst in gear.

Still rocking my shifter 5 years later, still love it, probably one of the best mods I ever did to the truck.

How much time are you getting out of the newer bushing? I assume that's what I have since I just bought it a month or so ago. I'll definitely order some spares though, thanks for the heads up! And this is by far one of the best upgrades I've done so far.
